Baby Gators Grow Up

Right before my eyes the 07-08 Florida Gator basketball team delivered one of the best performances in Gator history. A 90-83 victory in Tuscaloosa over Alabama. Now what makes this victory all the more sweeter was the fact that they were on the road. In a place that has been a house of horrors over the years. A fantastic performance from Jai Lucas, Nick Calathes, and Walter Hodge sparked the Gator comeback. Down by ten,47-37, Lucas drove the length of the court pulled up at the three point line and nailed a three before the buzzer slicing the lead to seven. That proved to be the biggest basket of the night as the Gators used that to spark the second half turnaround. Playing their first conference game without the “oh fours”, Al Horford, Joakhim Noah, Corey Brewer, and Taurean Green, This young squad may have put the rest of the conference on notice that this maybe a team to reckon with. Calathes paced the Gators with 21 points and 9 assist, Lucas added 19 points, Hodge had career high 17 and Dan Werner chipped in with 12 points and 7 rebounds. For Alabama Alonzo Gee had a game high 32 points, and Richard Hendrix added a double double 24 points and 16 boards.
