The answer is Roger Federer. This man wins everything well except the French Open. Other than that he has dominated his sport like no other. Not Michael Jordan not Tiger Woods can say they have done it the way Roger has in tennis. Now alot of you will say that since he doesn’t have a French Open title than he is not dominating his sport. That is not true. He has been in the finals of that event the last two years so it is not like he doesn’t show up at Roland Garros. He has been number one for almost 100 straight weeks and noone in tennis can ever say that. Even Tiger Woods finished a season out of the top spot. He has won Wimbledon five straight times, just completed his fourth straight U.S. Open, has won the Australian Open three times in the last four years. He has twice been the only male player to have reached the finals of all four grand slams in the same year( ‘06,’07). He is only 26 years old and stands two grand slam victories behind Pete Sampras’ record of 14. Needless to say barring any unforseen tradgedies in his life he will break that record and set it at such a number noone will ever break it.

It has truly been a fortnight since I had awaken on a Sunday morning and had breakfast at Wimbledon. Matter of fact if it didn’t have the Williams sisters in it I really had nothing to do with tennis. To watch Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal battle was truly a sight to see. It took me back to the days of Boris Becker vs. Ivan Lendl, Lendl vs. or Becker vs. Stefan Edberg on the mens side. Martina Navritiola vs. Steffi Graf, then Graf vs. Monica Seles. This was a grudge match and is becoming great for men’s tennis. Federer has won Wimbledon five years in a row. That hasnot been sen since Bjorn Borg (76-80). nadal battled to the end letting everyone know this is truly a rivalry. What could make it better is if Nadal can ever win at Wimbledon.

Venus Williams came toWimbledon as the 31
st ranked player, but yesterday she played like the No. 1 women’s tennis player in the world.
By winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
Venus was able to capture her fourth
Wimbledon title.
Venus overjoyed with the victory had this to say.
“It has been a long road back,” Williams said during the trophy ceremony. “I brought it together here against some of the best players in the world, including
Marion.”
Richard her father and coach feels that Venus should without a doubt win at
Wimbledon at least 3 more times.
If not it will be disappointing.
Venus now with the win at
Wimbledon puts herself in the elite crowd.
Martina Navratilova (9), Steffi Graff (7) and Billie Jean King at 4. “She served 120 miles (193 kph) on first serve. Sometimes it was hurting my wrist so bad, because the ball was coming so fast to me. So I really try my best I think, and I play a great match, but at the end she was just too good.”
Venus maybe the best is yet to come.

Venus Williams came in the as the 23rd seed and took on the 2nd seed Maria Sharpova. Williams considered by most experts that the game has passed her by put it all together and beat the second seat Sharpova in straight sets 6-1,6-3 in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Williams sister Serena was not so lucky she lost to Justine Henin 6-4,3-6,6-3. Serna struggled due to a horrible leg cramp injury she got on Monday. Next up for Venus is 2004 Champion U.S. Open Svetlana Kuznetsova.

In some situations rain can mean good luck. If it rains on your wedding day that means you will have a happy marriage and if it rains in Wimbledon that means you will beat the hell out of Daniela Hantuchova. And that is excally what Serena Williams did Monday at the quarterfinals. Williams collapsed with a strained calf, screaming in pain and buring her face in the grass. She knew that this injury could not stop her from winning in Wimbledon. Williams was a set up but trailing 4-2 in the second-set tiebreaker. When the rain came down she limped off the court. The rain delay lasted nearly two hours, after it stopped you seen a new Serena appear in sweat pants and both legs taped. It took a while for her to warm up, she lost the first five points but then began to move a lot better. Hantuchova shanked several shots down the stretch, including one in the rally where she lost serve to fall behind 4-2. On the final shot, she whacked a strong backhand return that Hanuchova couldn’t handle. With her parents and sister Venus looking on Serena blow a kiss to the sky as to say “Thank You!” ”I could not move before the rain. Just everything stopped,” said Williams. Watching her play that game kind of reminded me of Michael Jordan playing with the flu. Even though he was extremely sick he still dropped 38 pts against the Utah Jazz. This is another reason why I love sports so much. The passion that these guys have for the game they love so much that nothing can stop them. We can only hope that the pain stops and she can make thourgh the next match.
