Ok, this is not the outcome I was looking for. How does Kevin Durant pull this off. I mean he had a great year, he avg 20.3 pts a game the most from a rookie since Carmelo Anthony. But the way he played did not get his team even close to the playoffs this year. Sure he was second in the draft but Al Horford of the Atlanta Hawks rookie years was much more impressive. Durant’s excellent season was wasted by the Sonics. The Sonics had the worst record in the Western Conference, they only won 20 games. Yes, I admit that at first I saw Durant as this years ROY, after Greg Odem went down he was the likely chose, but his year was nothing like Horford’s year. The voters who voted must be smoking the same stuff as Josh Howard or they are blind if they couldn’t see that the true rookie needed to Al Horford. He did place second and Luis Scola placed third from the Houston Rockets.

Sunday the Dever Nuggets made history as the beat the Seattle SuperSonics 168-116. Denver has never scored 168 in regulation and 168 is the third-most points ever scored in regulation. Trailing the 1990 Suns, who scored 173 against Paul Westhead and the Nuggets, the 1959 Celtics who also put up 173 against the Lakers, and the ‘62 76ers who hung 169 on the Knicks. The Nuggets also set an NBA record by scoring 49 fast-break points.

The NBA trade dead line was today and a three team deal was made. The Cavs get Ben Wallace and Wally Szczerbiak the Bulls get Drew Gooden and Larry Hughes. Szczerbiak is coming from the Sonics and Seattle is getting expiring contract from the Cavs Ira Newble and Donyell Marshall. Seattle will have some cap room to do somethings for the future with these players at the end of the season being off there books. I don’t know if this is going to help Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavs but only time will tell.

My vote for Rookie of the Year Kevin Durant did his thing yesterday as the Seattle SuperSonics beat the defending NBA Champs 88-85. The San Antonio Spurs played without Tony Parker and since starting 17-3, the Spurs have gone 11-13 while enduring other injuries to Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili. The Spurs are now 9-9 without any of their Big Three. Duncan was frustrated most of the night. He still scored 27 pts and Ginobili had 29 pts.

Los Angeles Lakers have won seven in a row after beating the Seattle SuperSonics in overtime 123-121. This was the first night without Andrew Bynum but Kwame Brown started and finished with 10 pts and 10 rebounds. Kobe Bryant had a season-best 48 pts and this maked Bryant’s 87th career 40-point game. You could really see how tired Kobe looked, he scored the final six points in overtime. Seattle’s Nick Collison led with 24 pts and 18 rebounds and Kevin Durant finished with 19 pts but missed 20 shots. Seattle had a chance to win in OT, but Kurt Thomas missed a pair of free throws with 2:23 left. Seattle is now 1-1 in overtime this season and this was the Lakers first overtime game.

In a year of trade talks, injuries, and new faces in new places. One new face has made it all the way to Seattle, Washington and the person is my pick for rookie of the year Mr. Kevin Durant. Being the second pick over all in the draft this past June, Durant is quickly making a name for himself in the NBA. Last night was his first game against Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets. It didn’t go the way he had plan it, the Sonics ended up losing the game 103 - 120. His shots were a little off, he made is first shot at the free throw line and made an airball just mintues later but he still finished with 18pts.
