The Atlanta Dream Could Not Stop This Strom

The Atlanta Dream are now 3-27 as they approach the last four games of regular season.  They have lost eight straight and last night they lost big to the Seattle Storm.  The final score was Seattle 83 to Atlanta’s 69.  Sue Bird scored 21 points for the Storm and shs also had nine assist.  This win puts Seattle in a tie for first in the West along side SanAntonio.  Betty Lennox scored 25 points to lead the Dream and Iziane Castro Marques scored all of her 12 points in the first half.  The Dream are really going to have to start playing some real basketball before their season ends or end up with the worst record in WNBA history (the worst record is held now by the 2006 Chicago Sky 5-29).  I know its hard but still continue to support this team.

Strom Blows Past Winless Comets

The Seattle Storm beat the Houston Comets 64-63 Sunday night with a last second bucket by Sue Bird.  With 6.4 seconds left in the game Bird on a fast-break lay-up made the Comets still winless in this WNBA season.  Bird finished with 17 pts and the hot topic in Seattle Swin Cash had 11 of her 19 in the fourth quarter.  Cash is taking this Seattle team to its best franchise record for the start of the season.  Hoston is halfway to matching their worst record in  franchise history.  With a 0-5 start they are just 5 games away from matching last year’s opening season 0-10.  Shannon Johnson scored 17 pts and Tina Thompson added 14.  Houston had a chance for the win, but a missed shot under the basket by Mistie Williams fell short.  This game also had alot of fouls from both teams.  Officals called a total of 53 fouls, resulting in 64 free throws.  The Storm hit 26 of 38 and Houston made 20 of 26.  Sheryl Swoopes, played her first game against her former team the Comets.  She was on court for just 17 minutes and scored two points and had two rebounds.  Swoopes is Houston’s all-time leader in assists and steals.  After the game former teammate Thompson said “It was different seeing her in a different uniform.”

Swoopes Signs With Storm

One of my favorite WNBA players has found a new home with the Seattle Storm.  The Seattle Storm  signed Sheryl Swoopes yesterday to a multi-year contract.  Terms of her agreement were not disclosed.  Swoopes joins the Storm as a three-time league MVP (2000, 2002, 2005). She has also been named to the WNBA All-First Team five times, and to the All- Decade Team after leading Houston to four consecutive league championships from 1997-2000.   Swoopes is also a six-time WNBA All-Star and earned the game’s MVP award in 2005.  She has spent her entire career with the Houston Comets.  The West should be looking real hot this summer!

A Storm Stays Over Seattle

The Seattle Storm must really be feeling the love today because a group of season ticket-holders made sure that their favorite team didn’t go anywhere.  The Force 10 Hoops LLC, a group of four women have a purchase option to buy the Seattle Storm from Seattle SuperSonic owner Clay Bennett for $10 million.  Former Seattle Deputy Mayor Anne Levinson led the Force 10 Hoops deal, which has until the end of February to close.  The agreement was finalized in the last few days and ensures the Storm will remain in Seattle, while Bennett continues to push the Sonics to his hometown of Oklahoma City.   This news also came with reports that there may be a new head coach, Brian Agler.  He is an assistant coach with the WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars.  Neither the Storm nor the Silver Stars would corfirm hiring.
