After watching last nights game between the Rockies and the Padres many observers feel that baseball now needs to grow with the times and adopt instant replay. Albeit there were two calls that instant replay would have been a huge help on. One the homerun that after watching the replay clearly showed hitting a wheelchair in the left field stands and of course the Matt Holiday run or no run however you choose to look at it in the bottom of the 13th. Boy what a way to start the playoffs then a extra inning rally for a win. That is exactly what happen last night in Colorado as the Rockies rallied from a 2-run deficit to win 9-8 in 13 innings. In the top of the 13th Jerry Hairston hit a two-run homer to lift the Padres to an 8-6 lead and then handed the game over to future Hall of Famer and all-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman. What is better than one game to decide it all? That is what the San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies will get to answer tonight as they square off in a one game playoff to see who gets to play the red hot Phillies in the NLDS on Wednesday. Josh Fogg(10-9 4.79 era) will start for the Rockies and Cy Young award canidate Jake Peavy(19-6 2.36 era) for the Padres. October is officially here and its playoff time. Bud Selig is probaly the luckiest man on the planet for having a product far greater than he who runs it.
