Rafael NadalRoger Federer

Rafael Nadal in a classic match up against Roger Federer. Won the singels mens Wimbledon title.  This was the longest match in Wimbledon mens finals history.  The match was 4 hours and 48 minutes.  Nadal with the win became the first mens player since 1980 to win the French and Wimbledon.  The last man in singles to do that was Bjon Borg.  Federer coming into todays finals has won 65 games in a row on grass.  The match went five sets 6-4,6-4,7-6,7-6 and 9-7.  Federer had this to say

“Look, Rafa’s a deserving champion,” said Federer, who hadn’t lost a set all tournament before Sunday. “He just played fantastically.” Nadal had this to say

“I am very happy for me,” Nadal said, “but sorry for him, because he deserved this title, too.”  John McNero said it best when the match was over” This was the best tennis match I have ever seen.” Simply put this was a classic.

Who is the dominant athlete in sports?

The answer is Roger Federer.  This man wins everything well except the French Open.  Other than that he has dominated his sport like no other.  Not Michael Jordan not Tiger Woods can say they have done it the way Roger has in tennis.  Now alot of you will say that since he doesn’t have a French Open title than he is not dominating his sport.  That is not true.  He has been in the finals of that event the last two years so it is not like he doesn’t show up at Roland Garros. He has been number one for almost 100 straight weeks and noone in tennis can ever say that.  Even Tiger Woods finished a season out of the top spot.  He has won Wimbledon five straight times, just completed his fourth straight U.S. Open, has won the Australian Open three times in the last four years. He has twice been the only male player to have reached the finals of all four grand slams in the same year( ‘06,’07).  He is only 26 years old and stands two grand slam victories behind Pete Sampras’ record of 14.  Needless to say barring any unforseen tradgedies in his life he will break that record and set it at such a number noone will ever break it.
