The Lightheavyweight title match between Roy Jones Vs. Calzaghe took place last night and for the 1st two round Roy Jones looked like he turned back the hands of time. Jones in the 1st round even put Calzaghe down. But Calzaghe was able to clear his head and put his hands all over Jones. And in the 7th round with a right hand opened up Jones eye the doctors at serveral times of the fight was ask to look at the gashed eye. But Jones was a trooper he tried but Calazghe was just a better fighter. Jones who is about to be 40 years old just didn’t have it and couldn’t keep up with Calzaghe. Who now has a record of 46-0 with 32 Ko’s.
“This year I just beat two legends, with Hopkins and Jones, and I came to the United States to do it,” Calzaghe said. “I took the risk. They didn’t come to me. I took the risk.”
Now what is next Calzaghe? Retirement has been the word that is coming out of his camp this was his last fight. But one has to wonder will he give Bernard Hopkins a rematch since Hopkins look so good against Kelly Palvick? As for Roy Jones for a decade you was the best in the world. Now it’s time to say goodbye. Please Roy let it go and become part for the boxing sport in another fashion, trainer, promoter or even a boxing play by play guy.

Joe Calzaghe will take on Roy Jones Jr. on Nov.8th in Madision Square Garden. And also this will be his last fight. The 36 year old in a surprising statement had this to say.
“It’s a massive fight and it will be my last,” said Calzaghe, 36. “I’ve known for a while when I want to go out and as long as I put on a great performance this is my time.
“If I can do that then I’ve achieved everything I’ve wanted to achieve in my career. I would never forgive myself if I came to my last fight and threw it all away. Complacency is not in my mindset.
“But I know in my heart this is the right time to stop and my aim is to remain undefeated.”
The LightHeavyWeight Champion was suppose to fight Jones Jr. and then take on MiddleWeight Champion Kelly Palvick. But Calzaghe is walking away. Calzaghe to many experts is pound for pound the best fighter in the game. This will be something if both Calzaghe and Mayweather who were both at one time considred the best fighters pound for pound now both walk away.

The date has been set. On September 20th 2008 live from Madison Square Garden. Joe Calzaghe will take his undefeated record of 45-0 against at one time the pound for pound king Roy Jones Jr. Jones who has a record of 52-4 will look to be the man again in boxing if he can pull of this major upset. Jones at 39 knows more than likely this is his last go around in the spot light and wants to make the best out of it. Calzaghe at 36 is late coming over here to the states and fighting but it will like nice on his record if he can beat Hopkins and Jones in the same year. The fight is to be set at 175 pounds in the Light Heavyweight division. Now if Calzaghe gets past Jones then up next will be Kelly Pavlick.
