MVP-KOBE-Lakers 120 Jazz 110 !!!

Thursday, May 8th, 2008 |

Kobe Bryant was given his MVP trophy to the sold out Staples Center in L.A.  Bryant before the game started said to the fans  “I’m at a loss for words, I don’t know what to say,” Bryant said as the Staples Center crowd of 18,997 roared its approval and chanted M-V-P. “I love you guys so much. We’re going to play until June. Let’s get this party started.” The Lakers took to his word and in the first quarter the Lakers outscored the Jazz 33-18.  In the first quarter Bryant and the Lakers shot 66% and at the end of the 1st half they shot 61% and had the lead 63-49. During last nights show I told everyone that the Lakers are now tied with the Suns for the No. 1 spot in the Western Conference.  What I forgot to talk about was that tonight they play each other on TNT and this game is very, very, very important.  Why is it so important you ask??? Well, for one the Suns have won the Pacific Division title three years in a row.  The Suns have killed the Lakers in a 10 of 12 regular-season meetings during a stretch from 2004-05 and 2006-07.  They have even eliminated them in the first round of consecutive postseasons in 2006 and 2007.  But not this year, its a whole different ball game.  With the return of Fisher and Bryant player more of an “everyone gets a chance” game the Lakers have turned the tables out there in the Wild, Wild, West.

Derek Fisher was on FIRE last night as the Lakers beat the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night 117-101.  Fisher scored 26 points and that was his highest total since he scored 27 against San Antonio nearly two season ago.  “That was a great show by Derek,” said Lakers coach Phil Jackson.  Kobe Bryant add 25 points and the Grizzles Mike Miller had 19 points.  The Grizzlies never led in the game and as good as Fisher was they thought Bryant deserved all the credit.
