It’s been 15 season since the fashon of Basketball world has change. The high shorts went away to the baggie shorts that was brought to the basketball world by the Michigan Wolveriens who went to back to back final four’s in 1992 and 1993 loosing to Duke , North Carolina therefore they did not ever win a National Championship. The Fab 5 won 112 games the seasons they were together, but due to a scandal all of there wins have been erased off the books.
With the NBA tipping off tonight that means only one thing College Basketball is not far behind. Coming into this season there will be a different look to the scene. For one the two time reigning champs will have a brand new starting five make that a brand new team all together. If not for a reversal of fortune the Florida Gators would have a new coach as well. Billy Donovan originally took the Orlando Magic before feeling that the decision was not the right one. Now he has the task of rebuilding, I mean reloading, his program picked to finish fourth in the SEC East. (more…)
This team became the first to repeat since the Duke led teams of Christian Lattner, Grant Hill, and Bobby Hurley. They became the first starting five to return in tact and win the National Title. In ‘06 they became the first team in the state of Florida to win a title. Al Horford (3rd pick of the Hawks), Corey Brewer ( 7th pick of the Timberwolves), and Joakhim Noah ( 9th pick of the Bulls) became the first trio of teammates to be picked in the first 10 picks of the NBA Draft. Five members of the team were selected including Taurean Green and Chris Richards in the second round ( Portland and Minnesota respectively). On Saturday they were together again to receive their championship rings in front of a sell out crowd before the football team took on the Vols. Truly to never be forgotten in Gator lore 05-07 seasons for the Gator basketball program not made Gator history they made basketball history.
