Pay to Play
December 17, 2007 | Leave a Comment
The question has arised again should student athletes be paid for their play on the field? I understand the concern that people have behind this. You see all the money being made from television contracts , sponsorships, bowl payouts, and more. the problem I see from this is how to you disperse the money? Does every player get equal money or do your prominent players get more than third stringers or walk-ons? Read more

Your next Falcon Head Coach
December 13, 2007 | 3 Comments
Last night as we broadcasted the Sidelineshow my co-hosts brought up a couple of coaches that the Atlanta Falcons needed to turn this franchise around. Marty Schottenheimer and Bill Parcells were two of the names that were brought up. Dan Reeves is another name I have heard that should be considered. Those names are all well in good. But to that I say, how old are these guys? How long do you expect them to be around? Then what start all over again? To me there is one name out there that should get this job. He is a man that has championship pedigree and commands the respect of today’s player. I think that last statement in today’s football is more important than the first. No he doesn’t have head coaching experience. To that I say what is better a guy with no experience or a guy with losing experience? I’ll let you answer that. This man more importantly wants to and feels comfortable coaching in the NFL. His name has been brought in the past with prior job openings, Dallas, San Diego, and others. The Falcons brass loved him before taking Jim Mora jr, a man with no head coaching experience. Look at the way Mike Tomlin has done in Pittsburgh. Romeo Crenel has the Cleveland Browns on the cusp of the playoffs. Two guys with no prior head coaching experience. He has the fire and the passion to do what is needed to turn this franchise around. The most important thing he will need is time. This is a mess that he would be taking over. Like I said before he wants to be a NFL coach college does not register on his radar. He has turned down the head coaching job with his alma mater Baylor on more than one occassion. So to the Atlanta Falcons I introduce you to the man that should be your next head coach Mike Singletary.

Who’s to Blame?
December 12, 2007 | 1 Comment

We all know that Arthur Blank owns the Atlanta Falcons and he signs all the checks. We also know that Rich McKay makes all the football decisions as far as hiring and firing coaches down to draft selections. With that being said should we blame McKay or Blank for this one? Up until Monday Blank described Petrino as the “CEO” of this team. Now that “CEO” has left this team high and dry. This next hire will be the third coach in four years and the previous two had their eyes on other jobs. Bobby Petrino’s move in the middle of the night looks a lot like the Baltimore Colts leaving in the middle of the night to get to Indy. With bad draft choices and this coach being hired basically over the phone where do the Falcons go from here? Is Rich McKay’s time up? More importantly should McKay’s time be up? Countless picks wasted on wide receivers that take three to four years to pan out. An offensive line that has been the league’s worst for over three years. So the last question I have is my first question, Who is to Blame?

Falcons Name Interim Head Coach
December 12, 2007 | 3 Comments
As Bobby Petrino says “Bye-Bye” the Falcons name Veteran Coach and Hall of Fame candidate Emmitt Thomas as the interim head coach. Thomas has a great history in the NFL, he played in 181 NFL games, including Super Bowls I and IV. Thomas owns two Super Bowl rings as an assistant coach. Thomas is 64 and has coached with six NFL teams.
