My Sister I Stand Alone
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008 |Defending Australian Open champion Serena Williams was defeated in the quarterfinals. This marked the fifth straight grand slam event that Williams was defeated in that round since winning the Aussie open last year. A disheartening straight set loss to the third seeded Jelena Jankovic 6-3, 6-4. With sister Venus looking on thier seemed to be something wrong with Serena all match long. After cruising through the first four rounds playing seemingly at a high level it all came crashing down all at once. Her serve let her down and too many unforced errors (36) did in the defending champ. Now Venus stands alone as the only hope for Williams’ sister to win the first Grand Slam title of the year.
