The Atlanta Dream!!!  The newest WNBA team has a name now and it fits the way Atlanta is moving.  Team Owner Ron Terwilliger said” Atlanta is a city of dreamers, Little girls and boys imagine playing in front of cheering crowds and achieving success in professional sports leagues.”  The Atlanta Dream’s color scheme is red and sky blue.  The Atlanta Dream’s first game is on May 23rd at 7:30pm against defending Eastern Conference Champions the Detroit Shock.

WNBA UPDATE

Atlanta’s new WNBA team will officially tip off its season on May 17th.  The first game will be against the Connecticut Sun, but the first home game of the season will be on May 23rd against Bill Laimbeer and his defending Eastern Conference Champs Detroit Shock.  As a member of the WNBA’s Eastern Conference, Atlanta’s home schedule features 10 games versus conference opponents and seven non-conference match-ups.  The league has schedule alot of games to cater around families.  Most home games will be played on Friday or Saturday at 7:30pm with three others being played on Sunday at 3pm.  One of the best games I think will be when the Lisa Leslie and the Los Angeles Sparks come to Atlanta on May 25th.  Early January 2008, we should know what the team name, logo and colors will be.  Stay tuned to Sideline Show for all updates.

Marynell Meadors is Atlanta’s New Head Coach and GM

Marynell Meadors was introduced yesterday morning as head coach and GM of the Atlanta WNBA Franchise.  Everyone is excited to have her on board; she is an extensive coaching experience, she is familiar with start-up franchises.  Plus, she says winning games is a habit and a hobby for her!

WNBA Expands To Atlanta

Sideline show broke to you yesterday about the WNBA making a home here in Atlanta and in todays events at Centennial Olympic Park WNBA President Donna Orender and Atlanta owner Ronald Terwilliger celebrated the announcement of the new Atlanta team.  The WNBA now will feature 14 teams in 2008, with the Eastern and Western Conferences comprised of seven teams each.
