Falcons……..contender or pretender?

Written on November 10, 2008 – 12:40 pm | by chanceblack |

Don’t look now the Atlanta Falcons are 6-3!!!!!! That’s 2 games more than most experts…(including myself) gave them to win.  Right now they have a better record than the Cowboys, Colts, Chargers, Jaguars, And Packers all playoff teams last year.  So the question is are they pretenders or contenders?  The rest of the Falcons schedule has the Broncos, Panthers, Chargers, Saints, Buccaneers, Vikings, Rams.  There are at least 3 or 4 winnable games and that could lead to a wilcard berth.  If that happens then the Falcons will have one of the best turn-around in the teams history.  A new Coaching staff and Gm and rookie QB Matt Ryan, has the city of Atlanta buzzing and by the way the Hawks are undefeated as well. Is Atlanta ready for prime time?

Collins Does The Damn Thang- Titans 21 Bears 14!!

Written on November 10, 2008 – 10:29 am | by Harry Robinson |

Kerry Collins threw for 289 yards to help the Titans stay undefeated this season.  The Titans have run there record to 9-0.  The Titans who not once this season passed for over 200 yards had to do that yesterday.  Due to the stingy Chicago Bears defense only gave 20 yards on the ground.  The only single touchdown that was scored by the Titans on the ground was by Landell White. But this game was all about Kerry Collins and they was he passe the ball on the Bears defense. And add this to the stat board Collins did not throw a interception. “Did you look and see how many guys they put in the box?” Johnson said. “Eight, sometimes nine. They really wanted us to beat them throwing the ball.”  Now the Titans are 9-0 and the Jaguars are next.

BCS POLL TOP 10 !!!

Written on November 10, 2008 – 7:46 am | by Harry Robinson |

Hooray for the Iowa Hawkeyes they beat Penn State on Saturday with a last second field goal. How great was this? Now we can finally put this Big Ten nonsense to rest.  No disrespectful but the Joe Paterno love affair for him being 81 years old and going to a National Championship who cares.   College Football needs a playoff and then you can continue the Joe Paterno run will be a real story.  But until then who cares if the Big Ten or the Pac 10 don’t get a chance to play in the National game.

  1. Alabama- Lucky for Nick Sabon that Les Myles can’t coach.
  2. Texas Tech- Oklahoma will hit them in the mouth 2 weeks from now.
  3. Texas- Inside track to the National Championship game.
  4. Florida-Are they the best team in CFB?
  5. Oklahoma-will beat the pants off Texas Tech
  6. USC-you conference stinks get a championship game.
  7. Utah-LOL
  8. Penn State-you’ve been exposed.
  9. Boise State-Do you really care?
  10. Georgia-Matthew Statford will be leaving for the NFL.

Calzaghe Beats Roy Jones!!!

Written on November 9, 2008 – 5:47 pm | by Harry Robinson |

Roy Jones Jr. vs. Joe Calzaghe

The Lightheavyweight title match between Roy Jones Vs. Calzaghe took place last night and for the 1st two round Roy Jones looked like he turned back the hands of time.  Jones in the 1st round even put Calzaghe down.  But Calzaghe was able to clear his head and put his hands all over Jones.  And in the 7th round with a right hand opened up Jones eye the doctors at serveral times of the fight was ask to look at the gashed eye.  But Jones was a trooper he tried but Calazghe was just a better fighter.  Jones who is about to be 40 years old just didn’t have it and couldn’t keep up with Calzaghe.  Who now has a record of 46-0 with 32 Ko’s.

“This year I just beat two legends, with Hopkins and Jones, and I came to the United States to do it,” Calzaghe said. “I took the risk. They didn’t come to me. I took the risk.”

Now what is next Calzaghe? Retirement has been the word that is coming out of his camp this was his last fight.  But one has to wonder will he give Bernard Hopkins a rematch since Hopkins look so good against Kelly Palvick?  As for Roy Jones for a decade you was the best in the world.  Now it’s time to say goodbye.  Please Roy let it go and become part for the boxing sport in another fashion, trainer, promoter or even a boxing play by play guy.

Written on November 6, 2008 – 9:44 am | by Harry Robinson |

The Hawks has done something in they haven’t done in 11 years and that is start the NBA season off at 3-0.  The Hawks yesterday beat the Hornets and was lead by a 4th quarter surge by Ronald Murray who had a total of 14 points and the leading scorer in the game Joe Johnson lead everyone with 24 points. Josh Smith played outstanding defense on the Hornet’s David West.  Smith had 11 points and 11 rebounds the Hawks out rebound the Hornets 45-35.The Hawks have seemed to pick up right were they’ve left off with the big 7 game series with the Boston Celtics.  The Hawks who lost Josh Childress in the off season who is now playing in

Italy has maybe gotten better without Childress.  Lead by Ronald” Flip” Murray and Maurice Evans these two are the sparks coming off the bench and has become a scoring threat for the Hawks.  Hawks next game will be at the Phillips Arena at home Friday when they take on the Raptors.
