As I followed High School basketball this year, there are some kids who have caught my attention. These young men are blessed with a special talent and paint a picture of greatness to follow. I would like to inform you of the elite few that will lead this next crop of players. They will all have to make a hard decisions after one year of college to stay or play in the NBA.
The first kid is Greg Monroe from Harvey, Louisiana. Arguably the best player in High School. He is a 6’10” power forward that will be attending the University of Georgetown. Greg is a kid that can do everything from posting up on the block to shooting from three point range. I compare him to Kevin Durant. He has a lot of pressure on him to follow all the great big men that attend Georgetown.
The next kid comes from North Hollywood, California. His name is Jrue Holiday (pronounced Drew). I believe he is the next Derrick Rose, with better handles. Jrue can shoot with either hand which makes him just as hard to guard. He will be attending UCLA in the fall to play along side his brother. So watch out for UCLA to be stacked in the back court again.
Then there is Demar Derozan a 6’5” athletic guard from Compton, California. He will be attending USC this fall. There is some question surrounding how he has arrived at USC. Demar plays alongside Lil Romeo who’s dad, Master P, coaches their summer team. Its going around that Lil Romeo got a scholarship to USC as long as Demar joined him.
With every year there is going to be the question who is the next star and will they make a pit stop for one year in college. I believe these three young men are the next stars in the making. So look out at a campus near you for them. They might not be there long.

If you were listen to the show last night and I know that you were, here is the two new standouts that I talked about making their way to UCLA giving them the No. 12-rated class in the nation. UCLA head women’s basketball coach Kathy Oliver announced the signing of two highly-regarded local standouts 5-11 guard Atonye Nyingifa of Torrance, CA (Redondo Union HS) and 5-10 guard Rebekah Gardner of Fontana, CA (Ayala HS). Nyingifa and Gardner will enter UCLA in the fall of 2008 and become members of the 2008-09 Bruin team.

Big things are still happening in the city of Warner Robins, Ga. Not only did the city win the Little League World Series, but Northside High school is ranked number 13 in ESPN’s Top 25 High Schools beating out hundreds of high school football teams across the country. The Eagles were State Champs in 2006 with an record of 15-0. Northside High won its 17th straight game against cross-town rival Warner Robins High. So far their record is 2-0 and their next game will be on Friday against North Clayton in College Park. The school that took the #1 spot is Northwestern out of Miami. Congrats to Northside High and it kind of makes you think what are they feeding these kids in Warner Robins?

If you have ever heard the moniker speed kills then you know it’s true. If you haven’t just ask the Demons from Warner Robins as they were steamrolled in the days’ third game. From the out set you could tell who was the better team. Camden County is working on a win streak that reached 59 consecutive regular season games against Georgia High School teams. Although Warner Robins beat the Wildcats in the second round of the playoffs(I don’t see how). Up 7-0 the Wildcats took the wind from the Deamons when Michael Green, junior SE/DB intercepted Shane Sams and returned it 25-yards for a touchdown. Green would later fumble on a punt return that led to the Demons only score. Despite that this kid has D-1 potential written all over him. When Wildcat Qb Major Herron broke four tackles on his way to a 64-yard touchdown run made the score 20-3, which was the lead at halftime, they took their foot off the gas and cruised to victory.

Believe me when I say the kicking game is very important. Just ask Jimmy Dorsey head coach of the Mceachern Indians. At first glance you see a great game coming down to the wire and a close 25-22 score. As you look closer two missed extra points and two missed field goals including the last with just 6 seconds remaining in the game. In a game that was very entertaining you hate that a kid had to go home with such a heavy heart. In a first half that the Indians controlled they went to the half only leading 9-7. The second half began with a bang as the Parkview Panthers hit the Indians with a double pass trick play when Clayton Wilkin(qb) Derrick Heitkamp(wr) who passed to Jared Polak(te) for a 72-yard touchdown add the two point conversion and the Panthers led 15-9. Matt Collins(McEachern) hit Nico Delany for a 25-yard touchdown to tie the score at 15. Luis Uranga would miss the second of his two extra points then. After a Parkview field goal Collins went back to work accounting for 46 of an 81-yard drive that culminated in a Quenten Martin 33-yard touchdown run that gave the Indians the lead 22-18. From there the Panther offense went to star running back Brandon Jacobs who tallied 130 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown. On their final drive Clayton Wilkins came up huge as he connected with Cory Phenix for 15 yards on a fourth and 15 down to the Indian 7-yardline. That would lead to Wilkins’ game winning 4-yd touchdown run.
