NLCS-DODGERS VS. PHILLIES !!!

Written on October 9, 2008 – 8:09 am | by Harry Robinson |

Philadelphia PhilliesParty time

The National League Championship series kicks off tonight.  And with two teams that haven’t been to a world series since the early 90’s, look for both teams espcially there fans to be fired up to win this NCLS and go to the world series. Here is your break down of the series at each position.

1B- James Loney of the Dodgers has been hot during the postseason with a grand slam against the Cubs.  But he is going up against the best homerun hitter in the National League and the Ryan Howard.  Edge goes to the Philadelphia.

2B-Chase Utley has played a steady second base this season and at the plate been very productive as well. Utley this season batted .292 with 33 homeruns and 104 RBI’S.  As for the Dodgers Rafel Jeff Kent was supposed to be there but has been injured and Angel Berroa has played solid in his place but clearly the advantage goes to the Phillies.

SS-Jimmy Rollins the heart and soul of this Phillies team.  Rollins did not have a great year at the plate but Rollins does so many other things that you know if he is not in the lineup the Phillies just can’t win.  The Dodgers have Rafel Furcal who for a good part of the season has been injured. The advantage Phillies at Shortstop.

3B- The hot corner Pedro Feliz for the Phillies is batting .249 this is and issue coming into this series and maybe the weakness for the Phillies at the plate when it comes to infield production. The Dodgers Blake Dewitt is not heating up at the either batting .264. Let’s just call this one even. Pick’em

LF-Pat Burrell one of the big boppers for the Phillies this season with 33 homeruns. And hit a big shot in game 4 agains the Brewers has been productive for the Phillies.  The Dodgers Manny Ramirez what can you say; since coming to the Dodgers Manny has almost batted.400 and is got L.A. in love with baseball again.  Ramirez in the last playoff series agains the Cubs batted .500. Ramirez is playing the best baseball in the postseason advavtage Dodgers.

RF-Geoff Jenkins for the Phillies batting .264 not much pop at the bat seems to be the issue for the Phillies outfield don’t hit much for average. The Dodgers Andre Ethier in his second year is batting over .300 20 homeruns and 77 RBI’S. Advantage Dodgers.

CF-Shane Victorino- the most steady player in the outfield for the Phillies espcially at the plate.  Batting .293 in his fourth season and is rare a CF who can actually hit and has a good glove. But Matt Kemp for the Dodgers who took this spot from Andrew Jones.  Kemp went off only in his second season batted .290 18 homeruns and 76 RBI’S.  Advantage Dodgers.

C-Russell Martin for the Dodgers has had a solid year.  Batting .280 13 homeruns and 69 RBI’s.  Carklos Ruiz for the Phillies batting under .220. Advantage Phillies.

Pitchers- the advantge for starting pitching I will give to the Dodgers slighty with Lowe, Kuroda but in the bullpen the Phillies have maybe the best in baseball with Brad Lige and company. Advantage Dodgers.

Mangers- Charlie Manuel won back to back N.L.East Division titles but going up against Joe Torre 13 years in a row in the postseason and 4 World Series titles. Advantage Dodgers.

Winner- The Dodgers in 5.  Manny Ramirez is the MVP.
