H30′S CFB TOP 10 HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK 1!!!

Written on September 2, 2008 – 8:04 am | by Harry Robinson |

  1. Julio JonesACC aka the All Crappie Conference- Virginia Tech, Virginia and of coarse Clemson.  This conference has been flat out embarrassment to the conference.  From the Pac 10 to the SEC made the ACC real bad. Al Grow, Frank Beemer and Tommy Bowden looked liked coaches who don’t have a clue on what’s going on and Bowden and Grow maybe out of a job after this season.

  1. Nick Saban Alabama’s head coach proves why he arguably is the best coach in college football. The way his young Alabama team looked against Clemson was flat out remarkable. Saban took the No.9 ranked team in the nation and made them look like a non top 25 team Saban has to be credit with that. C.J. Spiller and James Davis had a combination of 8 carries for 20 yards.  The longest gain that Clemson had for rushing yards was 8.  But the combination of true freshman Mark Ingram and Junior Glen Coffee made Clemson look 2nd rate. They had 186 yards so they out rushed the Clemson Tigers 186 to 12. Senior Quarterback John Parker looked like he was in a zone the whole game.  Parker went 22/30 for 180 yards with 2 touchdowns. The receivers also stepped up for the Alabama lead by the Senior Tight End Nick Walker who had 7 catches for 67 Yards and the talked about rookie Julio Jones had 4 receptions for 28 yards and a touchdown.

  1.   Tommy Bowden head coach of the Clemson Tigers must look at what he has done with the talented Clemson program. Bowden got arguably the number 1 recruiter Da’Quan Bowers Defensive Tackle true freshman along with Spiller and Davis there is no excuse on why the Tigers can’t run the table and still win the ACC.  But you have wonder is the SEC that much more better than everyone else or does Tommy Bowden need to look in the mirror and wonder is he really the coach for this talented Clemson team.

  1. UCLA- the Bruins made and outstanding debut last night with and overtime win 27-24.  The story of this game is the combination of coaching of Rick Neuheisel and Norm Chow put together a good strong offense plan to get after Tennessee. In the 1st half Kevin Craft looks awful by throwing 4 interceptions.  But in the second half Craft had complete control of the game and took UCLA into scoring in the last drive of the 4th quarter 9 plays 70 yards and threw for a touchdown. The drive took 1:27, but Tennessee came back tying the game up with a 46 yard field goal by

    Lincoln
.  But UCLA was able to get the winning field goal in the overtime period.  And

    Lincoln
missed in the overtime period to give UCLA the win.

  1. Frank Beemer got a taste of his own medicine.  As a block punt in the 4th quarter under 2 minutes in the game and was return for a touchdown by East Carolina.  Virginia Tech came up with a lost. Sean Glennon the senior the quarterback went 14 for 23 and threw for two interceptions. The offense struggled the whole day and the most surprising thing was why did Beemer the head coach of VA Stage red shirt his best athletic player Tyrod Taylor? Will Beemer turn around and take the red shirt off

    Taylor
and make him start for this VA Tech? I think Beemer will change is mind and make that happened.

  1. Michigan- losing another opener to Utah Teps 25-23.  Rich Rodriguez clearly is going to have and issue with putting this spread offence together. At 1st they’re going to have got a more athletic quarterback to pull this off. Steven Threet the freshman quarterback went 8 of 19 for 69 yards and 1 touchdown.  The defense for

Michigan gave up almost three hundred yards in the 1st half but turned it around in the second half for only allowing under 100 yards the Wolverines showed some fight but they just don’t have and athletic quarterback to pull this off for this season they will struggle.

  1. USC- Mark Sanchez the quarterback coming off a dislocated knee cap in the spring practice. Sanchez went off by going 26 for 35 and threw for 338 yards and 3 touchdowns. USC offense had a total of 558 and Virginia only had 187 yards. The USC defense gave up only 32 yards on the ground. And as a team USC ran for 218 yards. USC and Pete Carroll don’t miss a heartbeat and Sanchez the junior maybe close to being compared to Carson Palmer.

  1. Chris “Beanie” Wells the Heisman candidate hurt his foot and there is not time table how long he will be out.  Wells rushed for 111 yards on 13 attempts. The one thing The Ohio State fans and all of college football need to watch out for is rookie sensation Terrell Pryor. Pryor went 4 for 6 for 52 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 52 yards and had a 21 yard run for a touchdown.

  1. UGA- the number 1 team did what they had to do.  Knownshown Marino scored three touchdowns and the Quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs Matthew Stafford went 13 for 21 and threw for 275 yards which is a career high for the junior add to that two touchdowns.

  1.  David Wanstead- the Pitt Panthers fans should be so fed up with this guy he has been a disgrace. How do the Panthers loose at home to Bowling Green, this is not suppose to happened no way no how.  Wanstead who beat West Virginia at home looked to be turning around the program around.  But as usual same old Wanstead four turnovers against

Bowling Green and losing the home opener it just doesn’t add up.  I wonder how Mark May of ESPN feels about Wanstead now.
