Huskers win opener

Well there were are still are alot of questions surrounding the years Husker squad. The came out on top Saturday with a 47-24 victory over Western Michigan. Joe Ganz led the offense going 20 for 36 with 345 yards passing while getting 4 touchdowns and throwing 2 interceptions. Nate Swift led the recieving corp with five catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. I was very happy to see the recievers hold on to the ball and make some moves downfield. Roy Helu led the Huskers in rushing with a very dissapointing turn out by the whole team. Helu had seven carries for fiffty two yards while the starter Marlon Lucky only had forty three yards on twelve carries but had one touchdown.
The Blackshirts looked very good in the first half. The front four were able to apply some pressure the Western Michigan quarterback sacking him a total of four sacks in the game. Last year that group had a total of 13 all last year. Cody Glenn looked like he had been playing linebacker since he came to Nebraska. The senior running back coverted to linebacker in the spring had 12 tackles, two pass break ups and one forced fumble. The second half it looked like the Blackshirts got comfortable and started to fall back into the defense of last year of not staying focused.
Overall I would say their I still alot of improvement to be made but it was only game one. The offense looks to be on track other than a surprising lack of running game. The defense just needs to stay focused and keep their intensity up the entire game. I am happy to be one and zero and not zero and one. With this team and coaching staff it is going to be a week by week basis. So Huskers just stay patient and keep on supporting the Big Red.
