Wow! What a day for the USA Men’s and Women’s relay team last night.  What started off as a fantastic run for both teams, ended in a baton hand-off nightmare.  This was the first time in Olypmic history that both teams dropped the baton in a relay race.   This happened on the final hand-off for both teams.  This nightmare was all to familiar for the Women’s USA relay team, the same thing happen in Athens in 2004.  Marion Jones and Lauryn Williams dropped the baton in Athens and Williams did it again this year with Mechelle Lewis.  The look on Lewis face after the baton was dropped was a priceless.

Despite dropping it Williams still took the baton and ran across the finish line, in last place.  The men were in a close race with Trinidad and Tobago when David Patton yelled “hand” and tried to pass it off to Anchor Tyson Gay.  But the baton did not stick and it fell to the ground and their Olympic dreams did too.  So who is to blame for this crazy relay race?  Well, both teams had hand writtten USA letters on their bibs….could that be what led both teams to drop the baton last night?  Who knows but someone is to blame for this race.
