Upset Weekend in Omaha

The first weekend of the College World Series is over with three of the four tops seeds being upset.It all stared with Stanford beating Florida St. The Seminoles scored three runs in the eigth inning to tie the score at 5-5. Stanford scored 11 runs in the ninth to put the Cardinals up for good. Stanford advanced to the winners bracket and sending Florida St to an elimination game. The second game Saturday had Georgia beating top seed Miami 7-4. Georgia scored four runs in the top of the ninth to take a three run lead. They stopped the Hurricanes in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the win. Georgia will play Stanford tonight in the winners bracket, while Miami will play Florida St in an elimination game this afternoon.

On Sunday the upsets continued with Fresno St knocking off Rice easily with a 17-5 win. Fresno St. will keep the momentum going as they advance into the winners bracket. North Carolina stopped the upset bug by beating LSU 8-4 in the Sunday night cap. North Carolina had to much pitching for the Tigers. Fresno St. will square off against North Carolina on tuesday in the winners bracket. Rice and LSU will play eachother in the losers bracket with the loser being sent packing.
