TOP OF THE WORLD-Celtics 131 Lakers 92!!
The date was July 30th 2007. And Kevin Mchale and Danny Ainge made the trade. The Celtics got Kevin Garnett and the Minnesota got Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff, Sebastian Telfair, a 2009 first round draft pick. The rest as they is history. Garnett came to the Lakers along with Ray Allen and Paul Pierce was already there and the union was made. So last nights game 6 in Boston, the Lakers were not only going up against a tough Celtics team, But they had to beat three hall fame players.
Kevin Garnett played like a man that was on a mission. And there was nothing the Lakers can do about it. Garnett was 10-18 from the floor. Garnett had 26 points and 14 rebounds. Along with Ray Allen who set a NBA record with three pointers. Allen had 22 in this series. And in the final game Allen had 7 three pointers which also ties a NBA record. The MVP of the series was Paul Pierce who averged 22 points. But he had and MVP defense performance against Kobe Bryant. Bryant had some horrible shooting performances in this series. Mostly due to Pierce. The Lakers who beating the Celtics by 24 in game 4 put Paul Pierce on Kobe and the series changed. Kobe in game 4 shot 6-19,game 5 8-21 and game 6 7-22. Paul Pierce who has been a Boston Celtic his whole career had this to say:”It means so much more because these are the guys, the Havliceks, the Bill Russells, the Cousys,”These guys started what’s going on with those banners. They don’t hang up any other banners but championship ones And now I’m a part of it.” It’s been a long wait for this historic franchise. The Boston Celtics waited 22 years to celebrate there 17th Championship. Which is the most in the NBA.
