May 8, 2008 |
The Detriot Pistons came into game 3 with taking complete control of the series. The Pistons if they win will have a 3-0 lead and will be looking at and easy way to get to the Eastern Conference Final for the 6th straight season. For the Magic this a desprate game for them they haven’t beat the Pistons in the playoffs in years and they as a team knew if they didn’t win game 3 and 4 this series is over.
The Pistons started the first quarter with the worst possible start and that is All Star guard Chauncey Billups strained his right hamstring. The Pistons without there leading man taking on a very desprate Orlando Magic team was a recipe for disater. The first quarter the Magic outscored the Pistons 30-16. This game was out of touch since. The Magic for the night shot 42-78 at 53% from the floor. From three point range they were 11-24 45%. Rashard Lewis lead the way for the Magic with 33 in all there were 5 players in double figures. Lewis had this to say about his big night.”I made my first couple and really felt like I was going to have it going tonight,” said Lewis, who came to the Magic in a trade with Seattle. “I know my 3 ball hasn’t been falling this whole series.”Detroit’s obviously been a team that’s been beating us the past couple of years,” Lewis said. “The main focus is we don’t want to dig ourselves too deep of a hole. We want to try to win our home games, take the series back to Detroit 2-2.” The Pistons had bad night from the floor they shot as a team 31-77 40% as a team 2-10 from three point range . Flip Saunders the head coach of the Pistons had this say about the lose to Chauncey Billups”I’m concerned because [Billups is] our quarterback; he runs our team,” Pistons coach Flip Saunders said. “You saw our first two games. He’s been a huge part of why we’ve been successful — that matchup has been huge for us.” The story now becomes will the leading man of the Pistons Billups return back for game 4 and if he does how effective will he be? Only time will. The Pistons now lead the series 2-1.
