Seattle is on the clock……..
Rumors suggest that this may be Coach Holmgren’s last year, on top of that Shaun Alexander has been a average running back at best. The loss of Steve Hutchinson really showed how important having a quality O-Line means to your offense. So what do the Seahawks need? Well on offense the Hawks were in the top 20 in all categories. The Hawks were in the middle of the pack in defense stats as well.
The Seahawks select: DT, Kentwan Balmer, UNC 6′4/307 lbs this is a run stopper. Balmer will help keep the middle on lock while the pass rushers can get after the QB. Underrated at the start of the combine Balmer quickly started to turn heads with his agility and size. In 23 games with the Tar Heels Balmers had 93 tackles(55 solo)/ 7 sacks for -52 yrds/ 17 stops for loss/ 10 QB pressures/ 3 pass deflects/ and 2 blocked kicks.
key free agents:
Mike Wahle (G) signed.
Jeb Putzier (TE) signed (one-year contract).
T.J. Duckett (RB) signed/unrestricted free agent (five-year contract).
Julius Jones (RB) signed/unrestricted free agent (four-year contract).
Lofa Tatupu (LB) signed (six-year contract extension).
D.D. Lewis (LB) signed (one-year contract).
Chris Cooper (DE) signed (one-year contract).
Marcus Trufant (CB) re-signed (six-year contract).
Olindo Mare (K) signed (two-year contract).
Omare Lowe (S) signed/unrestricted free agent (one-year contract).
getting their Defense stars under contract was the focus this offseason. Adding Duckett and Jones will do 1 of 2 things. Get Alexander back on track or get him out of seattle. The NFC West is still a weak division. If the Hawks can focus they can hold the title another year.
