Ric Flair retires!!!!!!!!!

Written on April 1, 2008 – 6:57 am | by chanceblack |

ric-flair-w01.jpgI  have followed pro wrestling for most of my life.  I watched and cheered just like the rest of you.  Ric Flair was one of my favorite “rasslers”, known as the dirtiest player in the game, he was Hulk Hogan before Hogan.  What I mean by that is, Flair was star and helped make pro wrestling a staple on most peoples T.V.  We can say what we like about the sport,  its fake, predetermined, soap opera for guys, all that stuff is true.  Think about this though  how many former athletes from other sports die as often as they do from Pro Wrestling?  Here is a guy that has been Jet-Flying, Limo-Riding, and a Kiss-Stealing son-of-a-gun for 35 years.  Flair had many catch phrases that we all have used one time or another.  Like “to be the man you have to beat the man” or how bout this one…”like it or hate it but learn to love it” and one of my favorites”twisted steel and sex appeal” and of course the all to famous “WOOOOO”.  From the Flamboyant enterance robes that looked like something that would make Liberace jealous to the music of “2000 Space Odyessey”  Ric Flair was a performer.  Holding the World Championship Title a record 16 times. For those who don’t know title holders are based on how many people tune in on T.V. and go the matches and now add internet viewers and votes.  It’s like being the M.V.P every week or winning the Oscar for top performer.  That is a hella run.  Last night on WWE-RAW, Ric was being thanked by some of the guys he inspired and some of the guys that had great matches with him in the day.  Guys like Harley Race,Greg Valentine, Ricky”the Dragon”Steamboat, and I know Kerry Von Erich was smiling from heaven as well.  Flair started the Four Horseman which spawned DX,and my fave the nWo.  With all due respect to the likes of Hulk Hogan and the late Andre the Giant,  without Ric Flair wrestling would not be as popular.  So thanks Ric for 35 years of being the consumate performer night in and night out.  You will be missed……..

    Ric,

Thanks for all the entertainment. You are still a true professional. I have seen a lot of wrestlers in this profession and no one even comes close to the talent you have-
I have followed you through out the Crockett days and through the WWF and now WWE.
