nfl_shield_mark_c_cmyk.jpgHere are the final first round picks for us to grade.

22. Cowboys: RB Felix Jones, Arkansas my cowboys are so predictable at times its scary. This is Julius Jones replacement.  In some circles Felix was better than McFadden.  Jerry wanted an Arkansas running back and he got one.  Grade:A-

23: Steelers: RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois  The Steelers got a steal here this guy was the 2nd best back in the draft and now the Steelers will have a running game that will be hard to stop.  Nice Job Mike Tomlin!!!!!!!  GRADE: A+

24. Titans: RB Chris Johnson, East Carolina  What the? The Titans got a good player here, but they needed a WR and they were all there for the picking.  This guy was the fastest guy at the combine, the Titans could have gotten him in the 2nd round.  Good player, bad pick   GRADE: D

25: Cowboys: Thru Seahawks: CB Mike Jenkins, South Florida  This is a message to Pac Man Jones, screw this up if you want to.  This is the replacement if you do.  If PacMan stay clean then the Boys will move A.Henry to safety and Jenkins will be a nickle back.  The secondary will be one of the most talented in the league. GRADE: A

26. Texans: Thru Jaguars: OT Duane Brown, Virginia Tech  This is a strange pick.  The Texans needed a running back badly.  This O-Line pick is a safe one and will help the running game and keep Schaub up right. With a couple of good backs still on the board they could have filled the need first.  Grade: B

27. Chargers: CB Antoine Cason, Arizona  After losing D.Florence to free agency, the Bolts got his replacement.  This is a opportunity to move Cromartie or Jammer to saftey.  Cason can start right away.  GRADE: A

28. Seahawks: Thru Cowboys: DE Lawrence Jackson, USC  The Seahawk addressed a lot of their needs thru free agency.  This also being the last year for Coach Holmgren watch for the Seahawks to make a serious run.  With this pick it will give P.Kerney some help.  Nice pick Grade: B

29. 49ers: DT Kentwan Balmer, North Carolina  The Niners got a defensive monster here.  Balmer will command double teams and will help stop the run, and get P.Willis more sack opportunities.  Balmer is a definate need for the Niners. GRADE: A

30. Jets: Thru Packers: TE Dustin Keller, Purdue  Called the second coming of Jay Novacek, this guy is a playmaker.  Is it what the Jets needed?  With a couple of good QBs left on the board, you would think that getting one here was a better choice. nice player, bad pick.  Grade: D

31. Giants: S Kenny Phillips, Miami  what the heck? Did the Giants and Patriots go to the same school? This is a steal for the Champs.  He will come in and possibly start now. You would think someone would have tried to get this guy before the Giants did,  WOW!!!!!!!  SUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  GRADE: A+

That is your first round picks. Just from the looks of it there were NO WRs chosen in the first round. That says a lot about the level of talent that was in the draft.  Or it could be that the WRs are not as good as everyone thinks.  There are some really questionable picks and some steals as well.  I will break down all the teams and their picks and give them a grade based on   NEED, VALUE, TALENT.
