COWBOYS on the clock 2 times………..
Well what can I say? Bill set us up for success and 2 first round draft picks and we blew it in the end. We had the talent to get to the SuperBowl and got cocky and over confident into thinking we could beat the Giants 3 times in one year. So this was Coach Phillips first year, and now the buzz is SuperBowl or bust in Big “D’. There are a few needs that needs to be addresed. Mainly secondary help and to replace Julius Jones. With 2 picks in the first round both needs can be addresed. Free agency pick-ups are key as well.
The Cowboys select at 22: CB, Mike Jenkins, South Florida a ball hawking corner to help Newman is good here. Also if the Boys get Pac-Man Jenkins will serve as his replacement if Pac-Man screws up (all signs say he will). Jenkins had a good combine running a 4.37 40. He can cover most WRs, the knock is he needs to be more physical off the ball. In 07 he had 133 tackles and 6 INTs.
The Cowboys select at 28: RB Jamaal Charles, Texas The second fastest back in the draft. With a 4.38 40. Jones replacement is set. The problem with Charles is his ability to hold on to the ball. In 38 games Charles rushed 533 times for 3328 yrds, 87.6 yrds per game avg. with 36 TDs.
Key Free Agents:
L.P. Ladouceur (DE) re-signed (five-year contract extension).
Flozell Adams (T) re-signed (six-year contract).
Zach Thomas (LB) signed.
Ronnie Cruz (RB) signed.
Not a lot of movement in free agency, but will make a big splash if they score Pac-Man and he stays out of trouble only time will tell.
