The regional semi’s and finals provided few stellar games but many stellar performances. For the first time ever all number 1 seeds made it through their respective brackets. Memphis may have been the most impressive by trouncing the Michigan State Spartans and Texas Longhorns.  Neither game was close. Against the Spartans the lead swelled to as much 30 before taking their foot off the gas to win by 19. Against the Longhorns DJ Augustine could not get himself going or his teammates going. With the inside presence of Joey Dorsey and Robert Dozier along with super freshman Derrick Rose proved to be too much in a 82-64 win. North Carolina continued their roll bouncing Washington St. and Louisville Cardinals. In both games the Tar Heels were able to play at different levels each time. Against the Cougars they played a slower pace in route to 69-47 win. In the regional final the Cardinals tried to press and turn the Heels over but it didn’t work as Tyler Hansbrough made play after play to seal the victory 83-73. UCLA looked impressive as well beating Western Kentucky and Xavier. In both games the Bruins built leads of 21 points and ultimatley cruised to victory. Kevin Love continued his dominant play by getting two more double doubles. In both games the Bruins scored more than 80 points which bodes well going into their matchup with highpowered Memphis. Kansas, the last of the number 1 seeds,  got past Villanova and really had a tough time with Davidson and the tourney’s best player in Stephen Curry. Against the Wildcats the game was never in questioned. Scottie Reynolds could never get going which led to ‘Nova not being able to keep their cinderella dream alive. Davidson would become the only team of the weekend to put up a serious fight. Curry and his Wildcats would not go down easy. Leading Davidson with 25 points he got off to a slow start missing his first five shots coming back to finish the first half with 15 points and 5 for 12 shooting. In the second half fatigue became an issue as the JayHawks ran four different players at Curry to wear him down. It worked like a charm. After making his first two shots of the second half he would make only one shot for the remaining 17:49 of the game. He did have one last chance but after seeing those same four players who dogged him the entire afternoon on the last possession he had to pass which led to a missed shot. So now you have Kansas, North Carolina, Memphis, and my pick to win it all UCLA. This should be a good one.
