Count Down To Draft Day
The NCAA Women’s Tournament kicks off this Sunday and Tampa will host this years Final Four on April 6th, but the WNBA may be telling a couple of girls to stay put as the Draft just so happens to be April 9th only 3 days after the tournament ends. The Draft will be televised live on ESPN2 and will take place at 1pm EST.
The reason why the Draft and the Final Four are in the same city is because it gives fans the chance to follow the top players from the tournaments and also around the world. Fans will find a number of talented women coming out this year. LSU Sylvia Fowles, who hopes to make it her senior year to the big dance is just one of the top players that will be making a standout this year. Stanford guard Candice Wiggins and Maryland forward Crystal Langhorne. Other top college players expected to be selected include Rutgers guard Matee Ajavon and my girl Essence Carson and not to forget Tennessee forward and probably the first pick in the Draft Candace Parker. And she is on track to graduate this year. If Parker is drafted at the No.1 spot she will be joining the Los Angeles Sparks where she will play along side Lisa Leslie and she will join another Lady Vol, Chamique Holdsclaw who was also Drafted No. 1 and also played for the L.A. Sparks.
The WNBA will also hold other events over the week before the draft. On April 4th and 5th the league’s annual pre-draft camp will be held at the University of Tampa, where coaches and general managers will have the opportunity to evaluate the skills of 40 top global prospects.
