Ironic
The SEC Tournament had to turn to the ACC for help when a tornado touched down in the downtown Atlanta area Friday night. That caused the postponement of the Georgia-Kentucky game. That caused the winner of that game to have to play two games in one day at the Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs pulled through that one in overtime and later that night they prevailed over Mississippi State for a dat in the championship game against Arkansas. The Dogs started strong as tournament MVP Sundiata Gaines stole the ball off the opening tip and layed it in for the games first basket. That would not be it. The Dogs jumped out to a 16-5 lead and kept the Hogs at arms length for most of the first building a 17-point lead. The Hogs would cut the lead to 10 at the break and kept coming into the second half. the lead shrunk to five. That is when Gaines fired back with a three to put the Dogs back up by eight. The Hogs kept coming. After a couple steals the lead was cut again to five. Then the play that seemed to deflate the Hogs happened. Off a inbound pass Bobby Humphrey slammed it home re-energizing the sparse crowd and the Dogs at the same time. The improbable run had ended in a Tourney Championship and a berth in the Big Dance. Now with coach Dennis Felton job safe the Dogs head out west to take on Xavier in their first round game.
