Bubble Burst
For teams like Florida, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Syracuse what happened last night can’t help their situation at all. With San Diego and George Mason capturing there respective conference tournaments those automatic bids they received leave the bubble teams short two. Why you asked? In the West Coast Conference St. Mary’s won the regular season title and was favored along with Gonzaga to win the tournament. Had Gonzaga been able to beat San Diego then everything would have been fine as the WCC was looked at to get two bids from the league. Now since the Toreros upset the Bulldogs that means three teams get in. That takes one at-large bid away from the those teams mentioned. George Mason was looked at a long shot to receive an at-large bid because VCU ( the regular season champ) was headed toward the only bid. The Colonial Athletic Association Conference still could get just one bid but it looks as if VCU will get an at-large bid. That takes another away from the bubble teams. Without running the table in their conference tournaments the teams mentioned above are all having to absolutley play their way in. By that I mean either a deep run to the semi’s of their conference tourney’s or winning the whole thing. March is starting to become madness already and the selection show is days away.
