March Madness

What a Saturday in College Basketball. Memphis survived not only the UAB Blazers but the fans as they escaped with a 79-78 win. Trailing 77-70 with just under to minutes to play Memphis closed the game on a 9-1 run keyed by Chris Douglas-Roberts. CDR as they call him completed a three point play with 6.5 seconds left as he spun in the lane for the lay-up along with the foul. Once again the free-throw line was almost the death of the Tigers as they shot an horrendous 12-25. That maybe their downfall. UConn used a 12-foot jumper in the lane by Craig Austrie with less than a second to play to lead the Huskies past South Florida 74-73 in overtime. The win gave the Huskies their ninth straight win. Stanford used a ghost like foul call on center Brook Lopez to get by Arizona 67-66. Lopez stepped to the line and made both free throws to give Stanford a one point lead with 15 seconds to play. Then on the other end twin brother Robin blocked Arizona’s game winning attempt to seal the victory. Those were just a few of Saturday’s fantastic finishes. Syracuse stayed firmly on the bubble with a seven point win over Georgetown 77-70 in the Carrier Dome. Norht Carolina and Kansas both blew past undermanned opponents. Michael Beasley continues to show why he will be the Number 1 pick in the draft. The Kansas St. forward poured in 40 points and added 17 rebounds for his 21st double-double of the season in the Wildcats 37 point romp over Missouri.
