Taylor Vs. Chavez -1990 !!!

February 10, 2008 |

In 1990 two fighters from welterweight division put on a fight that change lives forever. Meldrick Taylor was a gold medal champion and was undefeated taken on the best boxer at the time which was Julio Cesar Chavez who had a record of 66-0. The fight took place in Las Vegas and did not disappoint. Taylor a fighter who was raised in Philadelphia was know to be a in your face fighter but had the skills to be a boxer who could’ve stayed out of a lot of unnecessary contact if he would’ve just boxed. Taylor from Philadelphia didn’t understand that and was in your face and that is what cost him his career. Chavez lost the first 9 rounds and seemed no way he could win, but when you looked at the fighters Taylor face looked like it was fractured and even though he was winning it looked like Taylor was on his last leg. In the final 12th round Taylor threw a punch and fell straight on the floor without Chavez even touching him. Chave with 25 seconds left in the fight caught Taylor with and outstanding right that sent Taylor to the floor refree Richard Steele stopped the fight and the controversy started there were rumors that Steel was under Don King and that was the reasoning to stopping the fight. Richard Steele after the stop of the fight his career was never the same Steele never got big time fights anymore and Taylor was taken to the hospital after the fight were it was confirmed that his face was fractured and was pissing blood. Taylor was never the same again and got knocked out again the next time he fought Chavez in the rematch. Taylor due to the first fight was beatin so bad that experts felt that after the 1st Chavez fight he should never fought again and when you hear a interview Taylor had in 2002 his speech is slur and Taylor looks lost. The best fight you may have never saw changed lives forever Taylor Vs. Chavez a boxing match for the ages.

One of the greatest fights that I’ve ever seen. Just as youu said Taylor took the fight to CHavez and Chavez put the hammer on Taylor. If Taylor wins the fight he still would not be a great fighter because of what this fight took out of him.
