Boy oh Boy
With the conference season now in full swing College basketball looks to follow in the foot steps of it’s big brother football. After such upsets like Gardner-Webb over Kentucky, and Mercer over USC this looks to be the best season we have seen in quite some time. Sunday showed us that on any given day the top teams can go down or survive with clutch play when needed. North Carolina looked destined to open conference play with a loss at the hands of the Clemson Tigers. That was until Wayne Ellington bailed the Tar Heels out with 33 points including the game winner on a three pointer with .4 seconds to play. A subpar game from all world Tyler Hansborough couldn’t derail the Heels. In SEC play you saw the young Gators take down Alabama on the road with a team made up of mostly freshman and sophmores. Tennessee and Ole Miss battled to the bitter end as the Vols survived with a basket with 4.2 seconds remaining. This to me tells me that this is going to be a great season and we are no where near March. When teams such as Rhode Island, Dayton, and St.Mary’s have all graced the top 25. Don’t forget about mid-major programs such as Butler, VCU, and the resurgence of George Mason. You remember Mason they made the Final Four in 2006. So let’s just sit back and enjoy the wild ride that is College Basketball. Yes they settle it on the court. No polls here. That should make the masses very happy.
