Weekend Review-College Football
Now this is fun!!!! With LSU’s meltdown on Friday the whole BCS world has been opened for all to see or be apart of. Darren McFadden showed everyone that the Heisman race now has a stud horse coming down the homestretch. He ran through one of the nations best defenses for 206 yards rushing another 39 passing and three total touchdowns ( 2 rushing, 1 passing). A performance for the ages that just might move him past Tim Tebow for the Heisman ( more on him later). In the latest game of the year in the SEC the Hogs beat the Tigers 50-48 in three overtimes. Even though the questions surrounding head coach Les Miles may not have played a part in the outcome the preparation for the definitley took hit this week. In the first half when the Tigers “D” had shown up the “O” couldnot move the ball because of ineffectiveness of quarterback Matt Flynn. Flynn missed on 13 of his 22 attempts in the first half. Trailing 7-6 the Tigers allowed the Hogs to stay in the game and never put them away. McFadden, quarterback Casey Dick, and running backs Peyton Hillis and Felix Jones continued to make plays. On Saturday the new game of the year in the conference went down in Lexington as the Vols beat the Wildcats of Kentucky 52-50 in four overtimes. Andre Woodson showed why he will be high draft pick next April by bringing his Wildcats back from 17 point deficits twice in the second half. The last he very nearly ended the Vols hopes of playing in Atlanta by missing a wide open Keenan Burton in the endzone with one second to play. Kentucky would kick the fieldgoal to tie the score at 31 at the end of regulation. In the third overtime the tide looked to have turned when Vol quarterback Erik Ainge was intercepted setting the stage for a Kentucky victory. Then the luck or bad luck of losing to the Vols 22 times in a row reared its ugly head. Kentucky decided to be conservative and set up a fieldgoal. That fieldgoal was blocked and Tennessee would go on to score a touchdown and covert the two point play which Kentucky couldn’t match. That sets up the matchup in Atlanta Vols vs Tigers for the SEC championship. Now we come to my boy Tim Tebow. Another five touchdowns put on the board against hated rival Florida State. That makes it four in a row for the Gators their longest win streak in the series in almost 20 years. Tebow wasn’t alone. His partner in crime Percy Harvin came back from missing the last two games with migraine headaches rushed for 157 yards on just 16 carries and scoring a touchdown on yet another electrifying run. For the season Tebow has accounted for 50 touchdowns this season. An amazing number for a sophomore ( 28 passing, 22 rushing). In what was the game of the day Missouri held off a late Kansas rally to win the Big 12 North and play Oklahoma in the championship game next week. Chase Daniel threw his hat in the Heisman ring by throwing for 361 yards and two touchdowns. With the performance now there is only one undefeated team left that being Hawaii. In the new BCS standings Missouri claims the top spot with West Virginia in the unlucky two spot followed by the Buckeyes of Ohio State. So I ask is a potential Missouri-West Virginia matchup what you want to see? Holla at me……..
