Weekend Review- College Football

Written on November 20, 2007 – 8:52 pm | by kbarkley |

It’s your boy K-Boogie back and in full effect. WHat a weekend for College Football, wait I’ve said that before. Anyway it still rings true. It all started Thursday evening with the Oregon Ducks going down at the hands of the Arizona Wildcats. Everything seemed fine in the first quarter for the Ducks as Dennis Dixon ran 34 yards for the first score. He looked to tack on more when he rolled to his left tried to plant and then his knee went out. His left knee, which was already injured from the week prior against Arizona State, just gave way and as he went down so did the Ducks. The Wildcats used the legs of Antone Cason, he returned a punt for a touchdown and returned a interception for a touchdown to lead the come from behind victory. Dixon’s backup Brady Leaf, yes Ryan’s younger brother who was also hampered by an injury, could not lead a comeback. The Wildcats would go on to victory 34-24.  Now let’s move to Saturday. Oh yeah let me get this out the way. Tim Tebow became the first player in Division 1 history to record 20 touchdowns running and passing in the same season. He also broke the SEC record for most rushing touchdowns in a season a mark that was held by Herschel Walker( Ever heard of him?). Can you say Heisman? Oklahoma was sitting in the cat bird seat knowing that with a victory against Texas Tech they would face the winner of the Missouri-Kansas collasel matchup with the chance at the BCS championship game. AfterSaturday night all that is now history. The Red Raiders beat down the Sooners 34-27. Graham Harrell threww for 420 yards and two touchdowns to lead the way. A week after having their championship hopes dashed by the Zookers of Illinois the Ohio State Buckeyes bounced back by winning the Big Ten championship beating Michigan 14-3. In turn ending the 14 year run of Lloyd Carr as he announced his resignation on Monday. LSU remained in the top spot for now with a unimpressive 41-24 win over Mississippi in Oxford. Now the rumors will hit a fever pitch with Carr now out as Michigan’s coach the talk centers around one man ( for some reason) Les Miles. This could not happen at a worst time for the Tigers as they prepare for the SEC title game and a shot at the National Title. Kansas and Missouri kept up their ends of the bargain by beating their respective foes to set up the Big 12 game of the year next week in Kansas City. Yes that is correct I said game of the year. Kansas being the lone team that is undefeated with a chance at the BCS title game (sorry Hawaii). West Virginia still has one eye on the prize after they survived their game with Cincinnati 28-23. Pat White ran for a couple of second half touchdowns to lead the way. Up next is the Big East title game with UConn next week. That is right I said UConn. This is what is great about College Football none of this would matter if the dreaded “P” word (playoff) was in place. I Love it. LSU’s possible opponent in the SEC title game could possibly be the Georgia Bulldogs ( and they want no part of Knowshon Moreno) as they continued their amazing turnaround with a 24-13 comeback victory of their own. Moreno continued his brillant play by rushing for 124 more yards and a touchdown. The upsets keep on coming. The Crimson Tide of Alabama one week after losing to Sly Croom and the Mississippi State Bulldogs did one better by losing to Louisiana-Monroe 21-14. That is 4 million dollars well spent. Oh yeah Notre Dame won. Damn!!

Glad your back, missed good articles about College Football. So sad about Dixon, so Tebow may have this Heisman thing in the bag
