Weekend Review- College Football

Written on November 5, 2007 – 9:39 am | by kbarkley |

Boy to be the number 2 team in the BCS rankings is not a safe place to be. Florida State who I felt posed no threat to Boston College goes into Chestnut Hill and comes out with a 27-17 victory. That loss not only ends BC’s hope of winning the National title but may have ended Matt Ryan’s chance at the Heisman. Navy ended 44 years of frustration by finally winning against Notre Dame 46-44 in double overtime. The win ended a NCAA record 43 game losing streak. The loss dropped the Fighting Irish to 1-7. Is the seat Charlie Weiss sits on hot yet? I say it’s blazing but I’m sure he is glad he is not Ty Willingham or Bill Callihan. Speaking of Callihan the Huskers have fallen to depths unseen before in Lincoln. Kansas crushed the Huskers 76-39 in Lawrence. That is right I wrote 76-39. The most points ever givin up by Nebraska in the history of the program. With Tom Osbourne now in control the time is ticking on the Callihan regime. After sorting through that mess the Ohio State Buckeyes continue to roll as they won their 20th conference game in a row with a 38-17 victory over Wisconsin. The Badgers put up a good fight leading 17-10 late in the third only to see 28 unanswered points in 23 minutes. LSU and Les Miles continue to be the luckiest team in the nationa as the Tigers win Saban Bowl I 41-34. Leading 17-3 inthe first half Tiger quarterback proceeded to throw three interceptions leading to 17 points by the Alabama Crimson Tide to take a 20-17 halftime lead. The second half was just as exciting with the lead going back and forth. Javier Areanas looked to give the Tide the lead and the game with his 61-yard punt return that sent Bryant-Denny stadium into a frenzy. Bu just as they have done time and time again the Tigers would not be denied. After tying the score on Matt Flynn’s 32-yard catch and run by Early Doucet. The Tiger “D” would make a stand next sacking John Parker Wilson and causing a fumble that the Tigers recovered on the 3-yardline. Two plays later Jacob Hester scored to give the Tigers the victory. In the Pac 10’s biggest game in years the Oregon Ducks beat the previously unbeaten Arizona Sun Devils 35-23 before a packed house in Autzen Stadium. Dennis Dixon threw four touchdowns and Jonathon Stewart added another for the Ducks. Now Oregon has the outright lead in the conference and an outside shot at getting to the National title game. The Texas Longhorns rallied from a 21-0 deficit then  35-14 in the fourth quarter to win 38-35. It was the fifth year in a row that the Cowboys led the Horns before losing. Missouri keeps on rolling with a 55-10 win over Colorado keeping the colossal matchup with Kansas still to have everything on the line. UConn keeps winning beating the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 38-19. Uconn leads the way in the Big East with a game with West Virginia on the horizon. Michigan kept their Rose Bowl hopes alive by rallying in the fourth quarter to beat Michigan State 28-24. The Spartans led 24-14 before Chad Henne hit Mario Manningham from 31 yards away to get the victory. In sad news the South Florida Bulls once ranked number 2 in the nationpoised for a trip to the National title game loss for the third straight week falling to Cincinnati 38-33. Now the Bulls face the reality of going from the penthouse to the outhouse falling out of the rankings. In a side note the Florida Gators kept alive their SEC East title hopes alive by downing Vanderbilt 49-22. Percy Harvin became the first player in school history to rush for over 100 yards and receive for over 100 yards  in the same game. The Gators still need a Georgia and Tennessee loss along with a victory over the Ol’ Ball Coach next week in Columbia against South Carolina. Until next week keep enjoying the games your boy K-Boogie is out…………..
