Weekend Predictions-College Football
Rivalry Week. One of the best weeks in the football season. With games such as Florida-Florida State, Georgia-Georgia Tech, Texas-Texas A&M. This weekend also gives us Kansas-Missouri and also Hawaii-Boise State. Now I know the latter has not been a rivalry for that long but this year Hawaii has a chance to steal a BCS berth with a victory and also claim the WAC title. The former pits two top 5 teams in a matchup that will decide the Big 12 north champ as well. I might as well say it now Tim Tebow will win the Heisman with another stellar performance against the Seminoles. There I said it( for like the tenth time huh). Let the predictions begin……………..
#2 Kansas vs #4 Missouri
Even before this game kicks off what I love about this game is not the fact that this matchup has championship implications but the fact that this game will be played in Arrowhead Stadium where 80,000 fans get to see this fabulous matchup.Quarterbacks Todd Reesing and Chase Daniel highlight this game.
There’ll be a sellout crowd of nearly 80,000 frenzied fans Saturday night for the No. 2 Jayhawks and No. 3 Tigers, the biggest game ever played in the second-oldest rivalry in college football.A trip to New York for the Heisman Trophy announcement may well await whichever quarterback — Missouri’s Chase Daniel or Kansas’ Todd Reesing — trots away a winner. Neither school has had a Heisman winner. So many years and so many games encompassing such a broad swath of American history — and never was so much at stake for players, coaches and fans as there will be at Arrowhead Stadium. The quarterbacks are undersized Texas natives having tremendous seasons in yardage-gobbling spread offenses.Reesing, a 5-foot-10 sophomore, has amazing quickness, vision and poise. While leading the Jayhawks to their first 11-win season, he’s thrown for 2,910 yards and 30 touchdowns and been intercepted only four times.Reesing, a 5-foot-10 sophomore, has amazing quickness, vision and poise. While leading the Jayhawks to their first 11-win season, he’s thrown for 2,910 yards and 30 touchdowns and been intercepted only four times.”I just see two winners,” Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon said. “Everybody has been talking about their height, but you can’t really measure the heart. Chase is out there playing hard every week making plays. Todd Reesing is leading his team and making plays. I see similarities. They’re both real good quarterbacks.”(fromespn.com)

#3 West Virginia vs #20 UConn
It is still weird for me to see UConn ranked playing important games and it’s not involving Jim Calhoun( basketball coach for the school). With a win the Huskies could become Big East champs and BCS bowl recipient. The Mountaineers are led by Pat White and Steve Slaton.
A season-long shake-up in the rankings has No. 4 West Virginia right where it hoped to be in a late-November — playing for the Big East title with the chance to reach the national championship game. The first hurdle is the simplest one. A win over No. 20 Connecticut (9-2, 5-1) on Saturday would give the Mountaineers (9-1, 4-1) the conference’s berth in the Bowl Championship Series. They’ll need help on the second wish. West Virginia, third in the BCS standings, must get losses by LSU and Kansas to vault into the national title picture.Connecticut coach Randy Edsall is calling this the Huskies’ biggest game since they moved to major college football in 2002. Connecticut recruits used to doubt Edsall when he would say he wanted them to be part of a champion.West Virginia has pounded Connecticut the last two seasons by a combined 82-25. Quarterback Pat White and running back Steve Slaton each surpassed 100 rushing yards last week in a 28-23 win at Cincinnati.”West Virginia has so many weapons and they can spread it around. Steve doesn’t have to be the guy every game,” Edsall said. “Rich has a lot of ammunition there he can turn to to make plays for him. I know he’s a great running back. If he gets a seam, he can take it. Anytime he touches the ball, if you don’t take care of business, he can make a big play on you.”(fromespn.com)

#12 Florida vs Florida State
The Tim Tebow show continues for one more week in the regular season. Tebow last week became the first player in Div 1 history to run and pass for more than 20 tds in the same season. Percy Harvin returns to add more punch to an already great offense. Can Drew Weatherford salvage a season that was supposed to be a rebound a return to glory for the Seminoles that hasn’t happen.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN FLORIDA STATE HAS THE BALL
Drew Weatherford’s streak of passes without an interception is at 197 entering the game versus Florida. This season the redshirt junior QB has one pick in 233 attempts. Weatherford, who now has nine career 300-yard passing games, has thrown for at least 300 yards in two of the last four games. Preston Parker showed just how valuable and versatile he is this past week when he moved from wide receiver to tailback and went for 133 yards versus Maryland. This season, Brandon Spikes and Dustin Doe rank as Florida’s leading tacklers with 108 and 72, respectively. Against South Carolina, Tony Joiner made his second interception of the season, which is tied for the top total on the squad (Wondy Pierre-Louis). Defensive end Derrick Harvey recorded one and a half sacks at Kentucky to bring his career total to18.5. With the effort, Harvey improved to ninth on Florida’s all-time career list.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN FLORIDA HAS THE BALL
Patrick Robinson’s interception in the first quarter versus Maryland was his team-leading sixth of the season. Robinson is now tied for fourth in the nation in interceptions per game and he is tied for the ACC lead as well. Nearly one of every four of junior linebacker Geno Hayes’ tackles this season has been for minus yardage. He has 71 total tackles with 17.5 (.246) coming behind the line of scrimmage. With his rushing touchdown against Florida Atlantic, Tim Tebow became the first player in NCAA Division I-A history to run and pass for 20-or-more touchdowns in the same season (20 rush, 26 pass). Tim Tebow’s passer rating of 177.5 is the second-highest in the nation. Andre Caldwell had 13 catches for 164 yards against Florida Atlantic to establish the new UF career record for receptions (177).(fromsecsports.com)

Alabama vs Auburn
This is the first Iron Bowl for Nick Saban. Tommy Tuberville has beaten the Crimson Tide five straight times. This is for what the 4 million dollars were spent on Saban for. To beat the Tigers of Auburn. Can he do it?
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN ALABAMA HAS THE BALL
DJ Hall leads the SEC averaging 83.5 receiving yards per game. Hall needs one touchdown reception to tie Dennis Homan’s school record of 18 career TD catches. John Parker Wilson has 15 career 200-yard passing games, which is a new school record. In 29 career games,Wilson has completed 447 of 794 (.563) passes for 5,282 yards, with 34 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. Antonio Coleman leads the team and is tied for 10th nationally in tackles for loss with 17, and also leads the Tigers in sacks (seven), which ranks sixth in the SEC. His 17 tackles for loss are the most by an Auburn player since 1995 and tied for fourth best by a Tiger since tackles for loss began being charted in 1981. Patrick Lee has picked off four passes in the last seven games. Senior Quentin Groves ranks second among among active NCAA players in career sacks with 26.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN AUBURN HAS THE BALL
Rashad Johnson is tied for the SEC lead and tied for fourth nationally with six interceptions. Alabama leads the SEC averaging 7.1 tackles for loss per game. Wallace Gilberry is the Tide’s second-leading tackler this season with 69 stops. He also leads UA with nine sacks, 12 quarterback pressures and 22 tackles for loss. He has 17 TFLs in his last six games for the Tide. Junior wide receiver Rodgeriqus Smith leads Auburn with 45 catches for 614 yards and five touchdowns. Brandon Cox has led Auburn on scoring drives that gave Auburn the lead with less than four minutes left in the game five times this season. Cox is now third on Auburn’s all-time passing yardage list with 6,631 yards. Montez Billings had just one catch in the first four games, but has 23 in the last seven, including 11 catches combined at Arkansas and LSU. (fromsecsports.com)

#9 Georgia vs Georgia Tech
Good ol’ fashion hate is on the line when the Bulldogs and the Yellow Jackets take the field at Bobby Dodd stadium. Knowshon Moreno continues his torrid play rushing for 1200 yards in really only 6 starts. What can Jon Tenuta do with this Georgia offense? Can the Jackets slow down Tashard Choice?
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN GEORGIA HAS THE BALL
Senior Sean Bailey leads the team with 34 receptions for 512 yards and four TDs. Junior Mohamed Massaquoi ranks second on the team in receptions (21 for 363) and TD catches with three including the longest in the SEC this year, an 84-yarder from Matthew Stafford against #9 Florida. Knowshon Moreno leads the Bulldogs in rushing with 1,228 yards, which is the seventh-best total in school history. His rushing total ranks at the fifth best ever by an SEC freshman. Individually, three Yellow Jackets rank in the top 45 nationally in tackles- for-loss — senior defensive end Darrell Robertson (14th), junior tackle Vance Walker (37th) and senior linebacker Gary Guyton (45th). Walker (8.5 sacks), Robertson (6.5) and senior linebacker Philip Wheeler (6.0) all rank in the top 10 in the ACC, and in the top 70 nationally, in sacks.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN GEORGIA TECH HAS THE BALL
The two most consistent performers have been junior Dannell Ellerbe and freshman Rennie Curran. Ellerbe leads the team with 77 tackles. He has been the leading tackler for the Bulldogs in six games this year. Curran had his most impressive performance of the season, after registering a team-high 13 tackles (12 solo) against #22 Kentucky. Kelin Johnson returned to the lineup against #18 Auburn and responded with a pair of interceptions. Tashard Choice (117.6 ypg), who has battled knee and hamstring injuries, leads the ACC and ranks 20th nationally in rushing. Choice has rushed for 100 yards seven times this season and 17 times in his career, including a 142-yard effort last week against North Carolina. Over the last two games, quarterback Taylor Bennett has produced a pass efficiency rating of 141.9. (fromsecsports.com)
