Dynamic Duo
With no disrespect to Steve Slaton and Pat White of West Virginia to me the most dynamic duo of this College Football season has to be the combination of Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin. One, Tebow, came to Gainesville with all the fanfare in the world and has lived up to every bit of the hype. The other, Harvin, came in with a chip on his shoulder and knack for finding trouble. Ever since he stepped on the campus at the University of Florida Harvin has been the model citizen. In his freshman year Harvin was a game changer. When he would come in whether from the tailback position or his normal flanker spot Harvin would make nothing but plays. His injury, a high ankle sprain, really slowed the developement of the Urban Meyer spread offense. Forcing the Gators to be more conventional without the fantastic freshman. His return keyed the run the Gators made to the National Title. In the SEC title game Harvin dazzled the crowd to the tune of 167 total yards ( 101 rushing, 66 receiving) for MVP honors. He capped off his successful freshman campaign by giving the Buckeyes fits catching 7 passes and rushing 8 times for 90 total yards. Playing much of this year without senior Bubba Caldwell Percy’s role has increased significantly. Not only having to produce on the field but now becoming a leader for a team that’s composed of 66% freshman and sophomores. This past Saturday against Vanderbilt, the 14th ranked defense in the nation, Harvin may have had the best day a Gator has ever had. Rushing for 113 yards and received for 110 yards becoming the first Gator ever to rush for 100 and receive for over 100. Tebow has been just as good and at times better. Coming into the season it was obvious that Tebow would anchor this ship. With no proven tailback the bulk of the rushing load would fall to the sophmore quarterback. Something Tim relishes. So many observers stated that in the SEC your quarterback can’t carry the ball 20 plus times and survive. That theory nearly came true in the Kentucky game Tebow took a shot on his non-throwing shoulder limiting his carries not only for that game but for the rest of the season. Truth be told that could be a blessing in disguise. For now Tebow is forced to expidite his progression of reading defenses and finding his third and fourth reads before having to take off down the field. So now Tebow has become a better pocket passer and in turn an even fiercer leader expecting his guys to make plays. The Gators stand at 6-3 still with an outside chance of returning to Atlanta with a chance to defend their conference crown with a team this young. I have always said that if you are going to get the Gators it better be this year because when these kids grow up Look Out!!!! That time is approaching fast. Stats to backup my claim; Harvin: 45 receptions for 714 yards 3tds, 54 carries 442 yards 4tds. Tebow: 151 of 223 for 2228 yards 21td 4int, 144 carries 598 yards 14tds (team leader in rushing).

I sure hope you are right and looking at those stats you might just be, but if you also look at Dennis Dixon’s stats too: CMP-167, ATT-246, INT-3. Jonathan Stewart has 10 TD this year and gain 1177 yds. I know how you feel about the Gators but look at the Ducks too.

Let’s calm down will see how the rest of the season goes for the Gators they might not be even playing in a big time bowl this year!!! Do not compare these two to Slayton and West Virgina.

Calm down I’m good and more importantly I know what I’m talking about. Slaton’s rushing yards are down almost 30 from last year. Pat White can’t throw like Tebow and Tim is a much tougher guy than White.

Slaton has won more big time games than Tim Tebow let’s be fair Tebow honestly has not led his team all year to a big time victory. Tebow won with Chris Leak as QB but he has not lead this talented Florida team to a big time victory all year!!!

What big time victories does Slaton have. They went to the Gator Bowl last year and this year if he holds onto the ball maybe they beat South Florida.
