Free Saftey Matthew Harper has been named the Pac-10 defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Oregon’s 24-17 victory over USC on Saturday.  The senior out of Union City, Calif. had two red-zone interceptions of USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, including one with 11 seconds remaining to secure the Oregon victory.  He also added five tackles and one pass breakup.

This year Harper has three interceptions, which he has returned for a total of 116yds, and is third on the team in tackles, with 71, including two sacks.  This is Harper’s second season at Oregon, as he played two years at the City College of San Francisco before transferring.  Harper’s dad is former NFL 49ers and University of Nebraska star Willie Harper and he is also my cousin.  I’m very proud of him and he has come along way.  Oregon hosts undefeated Arizona State this Saturday, at 3:45 p.m. Both teams are ranked in the top 5 nationally.
