College Football-Review

The trend in College Football this year continues to be expect the unexpected. Boy, you would think at some point the strange things would stop. They don’t. Who would have thought that a Steve Spurrier coached team, no matter who they were, would lose to the Vanderbilt Commodores. With everything on the line for his South Carolina Gamecocks the quarterbacks, Chris Smelley and Blake Mitchell, seemed to have somwthing on their minds all game long as they combined to throw four interceptions in the 17-6 loss. Vandy scored all 17 of their points in the first quarter and held on from there. Now the Gamecocks are behind the eight ball for the SEC Eastern division crown. Tim Tebow continues to make all in Gainesville forget all quarterbacks that came before him. In an electrifying offensive game between the Gators and the Kentucky Wildcats Tebow threw four touchdown passes and he added a touchdown run as the gators held off the Wildcats 45-37. Andre Woodson in defeat threw for over 400 yards and collected five touchdown passes. Some where saying that the winner would be the front runner for the Heisman. The way these two played it may be a tie. In the late game Les Miles escaped a mutiny as his Tigers got a touchdown pass with one second to go to beat the Auburn Tigers 30-24. With the ball on the 22-yard line and the clock ticking down LSU had a timeout remaining chose to run a play instead of setting up the fieldgoal. Had the ball been knocked away or bobbled in the endzone time might have ran out and the Tigers would have been left with that timeout and a loss. Couple that with Michigan beating Illinois 27-17 where would Les Miles have to turn after gettin ran out of Baton Rouge? My next story might be “Lucky Les”. The Crimson Tide rolled all over Tennessee 41-17 in Tuscaloosa. Nick Saban in his first game of this fierce rivalry showed that his team may have to be reckoned with in the SEC sooner than later. John Paker Wilson had career highs in yards (363) and touchdown passes (3) and DJ Hall set record for catches (13) for 185 yards. Next up for the Tide is LSU. That would be Nick Saban’s old team. That should be a good one. Cal continues to let it all slip away as they lose to UCLA 30-21. With less than two minutes remaining and trailing 23-21 Nate Longshore tried to squeeze a pass to Desean Jackson but Alterraun Verner stepped in front and returned it 76 yards for a game sealing touchdown.  Up next for Cal is Pac 10 leader and undefeated Arizona State. Watch Cal win by two touchdowns. Missouri showed that they can defense too with a 41-10 victory over the high powered Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Tigers intercepted Graham Harrell four times holding Texas Tech under twenty points for the first time this year. For my girl BC the Nebraska CornHuskers loss yet another home game going down to Texas A&M 36-14. Tom Osbourne is in his office getting ready to return to the sideline. Oh yeah in a game that ruled the College Football world in the 80’s and 90’s the Miami Hurricanes continued to the struggles for Bobby Bowden and the Seminoles 37-29. The Hurricanes scored two touchdowns in the last 1:30 of the game to seal the come from behind victory. Playoff? Who needs a playoff when each and every week everything is on the line. Ohio State survived for another week as the number 1 team in all the land. Holla at you next week.
