College Basketball is on the Horizon
With the NBA tipping off tonight that means only one thing College Basketball is not far behind. Coming into this season there will be a different look to the scene. For one the two time reigning champs will have a brand new starting five make that a brand new team all together. If not for a reversal of fortune the Florida Gators would have a new coach as well. Billy Donovan originally took the Orlando Magic before feeling that the decision was not the right one. Now he has the task of rebuilding, I mean reloading, his program picked to finish fourth in the SEC East. As for the conference as a whole the Tennessee Vols headline the conference this year. Remember I’m writing about the men not the women. After the Vols the Kentucky Wildcats continue to sit on their perch on top of the conference with new head coach Billy Gillespie. On the national scene North Carolina sits atop the national rankings followed closely by UCLA and Memphis. Kansas and Georgetown round out the top five. The big question for the Tar Heels is can they rebound after having a Fianl Four berth in front of them only to see it slip away along with missing 22 of their last 23 shots against the Hoyas a year ago? The perennial powers seem to be back as Duke is ranked 11th, Texas 16th, Arizona 17th, Kentucky 22nd, North Carolina State is 24th. Will the basketball season be like the football? We will see.
