Two Baylor Athletes Charged in Beating
Two female athletes at Baylor, a basketball and volleyball player, were charged with beating a woman in a park. Basketball player Latara Shanica Darrett and volleyball player Ashlee Genae Cooper, Both 19-year-old sophomores, surrendered to police Tuesday and were charged with assault causing bodily injury. Both the basketball coach and volleyball coach were not available for comments, but any team discipline is handled by coaches. On Aug 8th is when the attack took place. Darrett, confronted a woman in Cameron Park about something that happened earlier in the week. During the argument, Cooper punched the woman in the face, and the victim allegedly pulled a knife to defend herself but then she put it on the ground. Cooper and another woman kicked and punched the victim in the face as she and Darrett fought. The victim was left with bruises, scratches and a chipped tooth. The other woman has not been charged, but both Cooper and Darrett were released on Tuesday and could face a maximun penalty of a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
