Weekend Review- College Football

Written on September 25, 2007 – 6:31 am | by kbarkley |

Another great week is behind us in College Football.  It is so great, the upsets just keep on coming.  How about Michigan with their rebound victory over Penn State 14-9.  I think Mike Hart is still recovering from his 44 carry performance.  I know he is a senior but damn aren’t there child labor laws that prohibit this type of thing?  Louisville do you miss Bobby Petrino yet?  A stunning defeat to the Syracuse Orangemen 38-35  at home.  Wow! Losing to up and coming Kentucky is one thing but to winless, hapless, and any other less you can think of Syracuse, wait until South Florida, Rutgers, and West Virginia get a hold of them.Speaking of Kentucky that Andre Woodson is the real deal or what.  In an amazing stat this young man has yet to throw an interception.  Yes that is right he has yet to throw an interception.  He has gone over 260 attempts going back to last year.  Can you say number 1 pick in the draft?   LSU continues to get ready for their Oct 6th showdown with the Florida Gators as they take care of the Ol’ Ball Coach 28-16 in Baton Rouge.  Up 14-7 late in the second quarter Les Miles went into his bag tricks by executing a fake fieldgoal for a 21-7 halftime lead.  That proved to be the fatal blow as South Carolina could not recover.  Florida had it’s usual tough time in the state of Mississippi with a 30-24 win over the Rebels.  Tim Tebow once again showed that he can basically do it all by accounting for 427 yards of total offense(261 passing, 166 rushing). That is right I said 166 yards rushing on 27 carries.  The yards I’m cool with but the 27 carries scares me to death.  Against a team like LSU that is not going to work.  Plus he won’t last in a conference as tough as the SEC.  They don’t call him Super Tebow for nothing.  Also in a side note Percy Harvin had another sensational game with 11 catches for 121 yards and a score.  Be on the lookout for him he is very dynamic.  USC fresh off the butt whippin of Nebraska took care of Washington St. with ease 47-14 on Saturday night.  Nebraska was still feeling the effects of that whippin as they just got passed the Ball St. Cardinals 41-40 surviving a late fieldgoal miss in the final seconds.  Oklahoma continues to impress by thumping Tulsa 62-21 on Friday night.  The U got some luster back to their program by dismantling the Aggies of Texas A&M 34-17 on Thursday night.  That was a huge win for Randy Shannon.  My surprise team the Bulls of South Florida continue to show that they are truly the second best team in the state by beating North Carolina 37-10.  Now I know you are saying it was just North Carolina but this was truly a trap game.  The Bulls got into the top 25 for the first time in school history this past week and they have a monster showdown with West Virginia on Friday and they still focused enough to thake care of business.  Now comes the fun as Raymond James Stadium will be rocking as the Mountaineers bring their high powered offense into Tampa.  Should be a good one.  On a local front in what was maybe the best game of the weekend Georgia took down Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide 26-23 in overtime. Matthew Stafford hit Mikey Henderson with a beautiful pass that Henderson actually held on to for the victory.  Georgia Tech however continued their hangover from the BC debacle with 28-23 lackluster defeat at the hands of the Wahoos of Virginia.  Big games coming up this week lookout for the return of the Weekend Predictions.
