Weekend Predictions Week 2

Written on September 7, 2007 – 7:32 am | by kbarkley |

Yes yes yall I’m back with my weekend predictions.  It’s your boy K-Boogie I believe I was an impressive 3-1 last week looking for perfection this week.

Here we go……………..

Nothing but heavy hitters this week no appetizers.

Georgia vs South Carolina

Steve Spurrier comes into this hoping the third time is the charm.  A career 11-3 record against the Bulldogs(11-1 with Florida) he is anxious to get the ‘Cocks going in the right direction.  This is the first of two major battles in the SEC East in September.  Florida -Tennessee is next week.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN SOUTH CAROLINA HAS THE BALL
Cory Boyd rushed for two touchdowns on runs of two and four yards, his ninth and tenth career rushing touchdowns. Boyd also has four career touchdowns on pass receptions. Sixth-year senior Andy Boyd caught three passes for 48 yards and one touchdown, a two yard pass from Chris Smelley. Boyd nearly doubled his career reception total. He has seven career receptions, including four touchdowns.

Out of Georgia’s top five tacklers in 2006, only senior safety Kelin Johnson is returning to the Bulldogs in 2007. Johnson, who has appeared in 39 games, is one of the leaders of this year’s unit. He finished second on the team with five tackles in the season-opening win over the Cowboys and had one interception. In his first career start coming against Oklahoma State, Dannell Ellerbe, playing MLB, led the Bulldogs with a career-high seven tackles, one sack and 1.5 tackles for a loss of 11 yards.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN GEORGIA HAS THE BALL
Georgia sophomore QB Matthew Stafford is 7-2 as a starter. He led Georgia to three consecutive wins over ranked opponents to close the 2006 campaign. He was efficient in his 2007 debut on 18-of-24 passing with 234 yards and two TDs during the Bulldogs’ 35-14 win over Oklahoma State. Senior center Fernando Velasco was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week.

Defensive end Eric Norwood was a first team Freshman All-American by The Sporting News and earned second team Freshman All-America honors by Rivals.com. Linebacker Rodney Paulk was named to The Sporting News’ second team Freshman All-America squad. Senior middle linebacker Jasper Brinkley is an All- America candidate after earning fi rst team All-SEC honors a year ago. (from secsports.com)

Virginia Tech vs LSU

In the game of the week LSU welcomes the new “America’s team ” to Baton Rouge for a night kickoff.  Normally I would say that the best coach wins in college football but when you have the talent that the Tigers have it really doesn’t matter who your coach is.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN VIRGINIA TECH HAS THE BALL
Sean Glennon won the quarterback job last year and has held on to it ever since. Glennon opened the season by completing 22-of-33 asses gainst East Carolina or 245 yards and a touchdown with an interception. Branden Ore leads this year’s group of tailbacks…Last year, Ore rushed for 1,137 yard and scored 17 total TDs.

Defensively, the Tigers limited the Bulldogs to only 10 rushing yards and just 146 yards of offense last week. LSU’s defense forced seven turnovers, including six interceptions which were the most by a Tiger team since 1975. LB Ali Highsmith led the Tigers with 8 tackles, while DT Glenn Dorsey had 5 tackles, 2 tackles for losses and a sack. FS Craig Steltz tied a school-record with 3 interceptions in the win.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN LSU HAS THE BALL
Matt Flynn directed an LSU offense against Mississippi State that scored 45 points, didn’t commit a turnover and racked up 347 yards on a wet field. Flynn finished 12 of 19 for 128 yards and a pair of scores. He also rushed for 42 yards on 11 carries. Flynn’s top target in the opener was that of WR Early Doucet, who hauled in a career-best 9 receptions for 78 yards and a TD. Senior RB Jacob Hester led the Tigers on the ground with 68 yards on 14 carries.

The linebacking duo of of Vince Hall and Xavier Adibi team up to give Tech “the best LB duo in the country,” according to ESPN’s Chris Spielman. Hall has started the last 39 games at the mike position and was named a first-team All-ACC linebacker last year. Adibi started all 13 games last year at the backer position and has started 27 ames in a row.(from secsports.com)

TCU vs Texas

With the way Texas looked last week you could say that this is a easy win for the Horned Frogs of TCU.  I would look at it differently.  Colt MCcoy eill bounce back with a great game and UT crowd will play a huge part in this contest.

TCU has won five straight games against Big 12 opponents. Extending that streak could provide the sweetest victory of the run.

The 19th-ranked Horned Frogs face former Southwest Conference rival and No. 7 Texas for the first time in nearly 12 years when they visit the Longhorns on Saturday.

TCU and Texas haven’t met since the Longhorns won 27-19 at home on Nov. 18, 1995. The Horned Frogs trail the all-time series 60-20-1, and have lost 14 straight meetings in Austin.

Although Texas has the highest profile of any team in the state, TCU has carved out a decent niche for itself over the last few years. The Horned Frogs have won at least 10 games in four of their last five seasons and are favored to win the Mountain West Conference this year.

It’s questionable, however, whether standout defensive end Tommy Blake will make his season debut for TCU. Blake has been away from the team on a medical leave with an undisclosed illness and was held out of last week’s season-opening 27-0 win over Baylor.

The two-time All-MWC selection and NFL prospect has practiced only three times since leaving campus and going home for a week for personal reasons in mid-August.

The Horned Frogs‘ defense - which ranked in the top three nationally in total defense, rushing and scoring last season - returned seven starters and was impressive against Baylor. TCU finished with four interceptions and gave up just 51 yards rushing in its ninth straight victory.

That defense will be facing a Texas offense that struggled in a 21-13 win over Arkansas State last week in its season opener. McCoy threw for two touchdowns, but was also picked off twice and the Longhorns were stuffed on four straight runs from inside the Arkansas State 3-yard line on one series.from fox sports.com)
