Weekend Review- College Football

Written on September 17, 2007 – 9:15 am | by kbarkley |

Another great weekend in college football is done.  More great stories were told in the third week.  How about Sylvester Croom coming away with a great victory over the Auburn Tigers 19-14 on the plains in Auburn.  That is a great victory for a man really trying to turn that program around in the right way.

Nick Saban wiht his win over the Hogs of Arkansas may have the SEC on notice saying the Crimson Tide are back and here to stay.  John Parker Wilson,(Alabama qb), really showed how tough he is by standing in against the blitz and delivering strike after strike to bring the Tide back late in the game.  The Kentucky Wildcats and their quarterback Andre Woodson made the bluegrass forget about basketball for a while as they beat the Louisville Cardinals in a thrilling contest 40-34 when Woodson hit wr Steve Johnson for 57-yard touchdown with less than a minute remaining.  Boston College showed the ACC that the way to the title may have to come through Chestnut Hill as they dismantled a Georgia Tech team many considered to maybe be a darkhorse for a nnational title the way they played their first two games.  Matt Ryan, (Boston College qb), and the coaching staff really solved the zone blitzing scheme that the Jackets bring and Ryan had time to find all his receivers for a really easy night.  A real bad loss for the UCLA Bruins and coach Karl Dorrell as they could not solve the Utes of Utah 44-6.  To the main events of Saturday.  The Trojans of Southern Cal really showed the nation that they are the real deal as they destroyed the Huskers of Nebraska 49-31, don’t let the score fool you the game was not that close.  The scary part about this team is that they really weren’t hitting on all cylinders as John David Booty did not perform very well.  The receivers didn’t show up.  The running game and the magnificent defense, called the “hit squad”, proved to be all the Trojans would need.  How about them Florida Gators?  Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin led the Gators to a 59-20 shalacking of Tennessee Volunteers.  Don’t let the score fool you the game really wasn’t that close.  The Gators opened the scoring when Brandon James by taking a punt from his own 17 yard line and after a couple of ankle breaking moves he would go 83 yards for a touchdown.  After that it was Tebow and Harvin shreding the Vols.  Another great weekend looking forward to a next week.
