COCKFIGHTING!!!!

Now I know everyone is tired of all the hoopla that is surrounding Michael Vick, but if we look at the so-called sport of cockfighting people are starting to pay heavy also. Since 2005 the State House of South Carolina has been debating and has passed a bill that turn cockfighting from a misdemeanor crime to a felony. Before if you were caught you were punished up to 30 days in jail, but sinces it has passed as a felony you could face up to 5 years in jail. Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter made a very profound statement, “By the actions of the Judiciary Committee we aren’t going to create a felony bill if a man beats his wife but if its cockfighting going on then, whoa! Lets look into that.” But Rep.John Graham Altman response to her statement by saying “people who compare the two are not very smart. Trying to ban the savage practice of watching chickens trying to kill each other and protecting peoples rights, I’ll never be able to explain it to you in a 100 years.”

But what it really boils down to is that in the State of South Carolina cockfighting is a felony were domestic violence is still just a misdemeanor. How ironic is that!!! So let the truth be told that humans are now taking the back seat to animals when it comes to the law.
