Florida Gators Preview
2006 13-1 overall (Nat’l Champs) 7-1 conference 6 starters return on off 2 def
The reigning National Champions begin anew in 2007 in more ways than one. Chris Leak is gone and along with nine starters on defense. So why is there so much optimism in Gainesville? Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin, Andre Caldwell, Cornelius Ingram, Derrick Harvey, a number one recruiting class, and the list goes on. We’ll start with Tebow. Other than the defense he is the biggest question mark. Yes everyone knows Tebow didn’t pass much last year. With all the talent returning on offense he may not have to pass much this year. When he does he will have an experienced offensive line and a ton of weapons. People tend forget that Tebow throw for almost 10,000 yards and 95 tds in his High School career. There is no proven running back although Kestan Moore is the projected starter. Lookout for Percy Harvin he has added 15-20lbs of muscle to go along with his quickness. I think he will be in New York in December as a Heisman candidate. Now we got to the defense where the majority of the recruiting class will play. That in lies the problem; too many young guys will have to play. That doesn’t bode well in the SEC. Derrick Harvey is outstanding and Tony Joiner is a beast in the defensive backfield. Other than that the talent is there the experience is needed. With that said this team repeats as SEC East champs making it back to Atlanta two games against LSU one in a night game in Baton Rouge the other in Atlanta will tell if this team repeats as SEC and have a chance to repeat as National Champs.
