Washington Over Phoenix

Alana Beard had a season-high 29 points and Delisha Milton-Jones added 22 to lead the Washington Mystics to a 106-101 victory over the Phoenix Mercury. Bernice Mosby had 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Beard added six rebounds and five assists to help Washington(2-9) set a franchise scoring record. Diana Taurasi scored 25 points to lead the Mercury who won three of four. Penny taylor added 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists before fouling out with 3:40 left, and Tangela Smith had 20 points and seven rebounds. The Mystic led by as much as eight in the second quarter while Phoenix had the same size advantange in the third. Phoenix played without second-leading scorer Cappie Pondexter, who sat out with a strained groin suffered in Phoenix’s win over Indiana on Friday.
