Fever Heat up to Down Shock
Only one day after suffering its first home loss of the season to the Phoenix Mercury, the Fever bounced back quite nicely by handling Detroit, 77-67, on Saturday. Led by Tamika Catchings’ had 26 points, 14 rebounds and five steals. Indiana trailed only in the opening minutes. Detroit used a 13-3 run in the third quarter to trim the lead to eight, but the Fever quickly regrouped and led by as much as 20 in the final quarter. Tammy Sutton-Brown added 17 points and seven rebounds as the Fever moved to 9-2 on the year. The defending champs, who now sit at 8-1, were without All-Star Cheryl Ford due to an injured knee. Deanna Nolan did her best to keep the Shock in the game, finishing with 14 points and five boards, while Katie Feenstra contributed 14 and 11. If Detroit would have escaped with the win, they would have matched the best start to a season in WNBA history. These two powerhouses will meet three more times this year
