Chamique Holdsclaw Retires

Say it anit so….The LA Sparks announced today that veteran foward Chamique Holdsclaw is retiring from the WNBA. She is a six-time All-Star, she led her team in points and in free throws and consistently ranked in the top three in the league for points, mintues, and field goals. She averaged 15.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3 assists per game. She will be turning 30 on Aug. 9th, and she joined the Sparks in 2005. Prior to joining the Sparks, Holdsclaw starred for seven season with the Washington Mystics, where she was named the WNBA’s Rookie for the year in 1999. She also led the Lady Vols to three consecutive NCAA Championships and was Tennessee’s all-time leader in scoring and in rebounding (male or female) with 3,025 points and 1,295 rebounds. She was only the fifth women’s basketball player in NCAA history to reach 3,000 points. Her decision to retire has not been released, but she will be missed.
